Princess Mononoke.
Local Hero.

I'm forgetting one but will post it when it comes to me (or if someone else gets it).

There it is: "Dances with Wolves" with a clever twist:

3. Avatar is a summary of Cameron's other films
just a mishmash of Aliens (dangerous big aliens), Terminator (dangerous machines), Titanic (love story), and Rambo (disillusioned veteran). What a total disappointment.

17. But Cameron didn't make Rambo.
There's elements of the Abyss in it too with the NTI city and the neon glow.

I didn't see any True Lies in it, except maybe the riding the winged creature vs. trampling about on a harrier jet.

5. How about "At Play in the Fields of the Lord" and "Broken Arrow".
"Dances with Wolves" was a rip off of "Broken Arrow" with Jimmy Stewart.

11. I'm just making fun of what Hollywood can do/does to the most wonderful, innocuous tomes.
I would not mock Mother Theresa, who actually got up and did that which I only give lip service!

But it's so EASY to mock what Hollywood does and will do. :hi:

13. At least Andy knew how to control his budget.
BTW, it's best viewed as a painting which changes over time. Same as the DADA films.

14. Poul Anderson's Science Fiction book "Call Me Joe"
Edited on Wed Dec-23-09 10:47 PM by Quixote1818
I know it's not a film but for those in SF publishing, its well known that Cameron borrowed stuff from Anderson's book.

Snip>

Like Avatar, Call Me Joe centers on a paraplegic — Ed Anglesey — who telepathically connects with an artificially created life form in order to explore a harsh planet (in this case, Jupiter). Anglesey, like Avatar's Jake Sully, revels in the freedom and strength of his artificial created body, battles predators on the surface of Jupiter, and gradually goes native as he spends more time connected to his artificial body.

and a lot fromm Dances With Wolves.
