1. Calling someone a tinfoil hatter implies that they are overly paranoid

about something. I think the term orginated with people who thought that by wearing a tinfoil hat, they could shield themselves from alien or government mind control (Block out the waves)

2. Conspiracy theory

Referring to alleged conspiracy theorists as nuts who wear tinfoil hats to keep the orbital mind control lasers from controlling their thoughts, or some such.

I do NOT consider allegations of Republican theft of the 2004 Presidential election to be conspiracy theory, by the way. I think a strong prima facia case has been made from the exit polls in battleground states (Ohio, Florida, New Mexico), voter purges, a growing number of Ohio precincts where Bush got more votes than there were registered voters (in Cuyahoga County and Franklin County, google them), and the fact that the provisional ballots were not counted and now nobody knows what has happened to them in Florida and Ohio at least.
