Austin American Statesman Endorses Obama

AAS 10/19/08
ENDORSEMENT
President: Obama answers call for change, hope, leadership

On taxes, on foreign policy, on questions of energy, Sen. Barack Obama shows a firm grasp on the problems and a solid grip on solutions
Sunday, October 19, 2008

Each of the two major presidential candidates fill the air with different words that all say "change," but only Sen. Barack Obama defines change clearly and positively.

It is a time of peril, both at home and abroad, and the nation needs the focused, energetic leadership Obama has projected and delivered since he announced his presidential candidacy in early 2007.

It's true that Obama, a Democrat from Illinois, is a relative newcomer. In making the national acquaintance, however, he not only has offered solid ideas but also rallied a mix of discipline and organization to propel him from long shot to the top of the ticket.

This in no way makes up for this shit rag endorsing bush boy twice. But in the way that these things can help a candidate I'm happy for Obama.

2. Another Texas shit rag for McCain huh?
The shit rag in Dallas (owned by Belo) endorsed McSame too.

Read this drivel from their editorial board
The Democrat talks about change, but only the Republican has made change happen. Only one candidate has a solid record of standing up to his own party on principle and working hand in hand with legislators from the opposing party to get things done.

The Repulican made change happen. In their twisted logic McSame has already changed the world. Well damn if they put McSame in with bush - yea they changed the world but it wasn't good change.

Where do you begin to list the change they are responsible for?

  • The change from a peaceful America to one at perpetual war

  • The change from a huge government surplus to the largest government deficit ever

  • The change from a thriving economy to the worst financial crisis in a 100 years

:puke:

Fuck Belo!

7. Speaking of the DMN....anyone see how the editorial board is getting their asses chewed out
In the comment section of the endorsement article??

Of course, the comment section isn't make the national news..only the endorsement itself. Here is the endorsement, look at the angry comments underneath the article itself.

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/opinion/editorials/stories/DN-nutwospots_19edi.State.Edition1.2908f55.html

And then the rag follows up their endorsement with an article saying that Dallas suburban Dems just don't really matter, there are not enough minorities in the suburbs so anyone running for a Dem office in the suburbs are shit out of luck, etc...Looks more like they are trying to justify their endorsement of Mcgrampass.

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/101908dnpoldemburbs.3ddf06b.html?ocp=1#slcgm_comments_anchor

Please leave comments in the comment section of this article..let the writer hear he doesn't know shit about Dallas suburban Dems.

10. Yeah I saw that
at the time, only 11 had posted but all were negative. I thought "wow" because at least 1 or 2 knuckledraggers should have posted by that point!

13. This is exactly what happened to AAS in 2004
Massive cancellations of subscriptions.

I would tell Belo that if they think Dems don't matter to their bottom line - fuck them! And all of you Dems in Dallas with a Dallas Morning News subscription - cancel it. :nuke:

15. In one of my comments there I told them the same thing
Told them to staff their customer service phone lines really well this week since there are a shitload of "I will be cancelling my subscription" comments..and given that every time their circulation numbers DROP they lay people off, that they can start by laying off the entire editorial board since THEY are the ones who will have caused this next round of dropped subscribers/sales.

3. The fishwrap did. The world is ending!
I always get a laugh out of the letters that accuse the Statesman of being a liberal paper. I think of them as being slightly right of center on a good day. Of course the people that say that think that anything to the left of "Der Sturmer" and "Der Volkisher Beobachter" to be liberal.

5. Me too - still cancelled
But I'll admit to reading the rag online and I know they get money from the ad views that way. I still hate the rag and actually applauded when Oppel retired. Hope that bastard's 401K tanked in this financial crisis!

Just saying.

8. Yeah, I followed the same course of action after the second endorsement of Bush.
I read it online because I have to get my local daily news somewhere.

This isn't enough to get me back as a subscriber, though, if for no other reason than I don't want to waste the paper. And I have more time for DU without spending hours reading the paper every day like I used to. ;)

9. I'm not convinced
Let's see if they take another quarter page ad listing republican candidates for everything else.

Although, they will probably hold off on that, this year, and be back with that in 2010.

11. LOL
The AAS has always been known for being frustrating. I'm glad that like a stuck clock they are finally right once.

But for something that is meaningful, what is their stance on Noriega vs Cornyn? Their endorsement might actually mean something here.

14. It's about time
Every time I'd read some editorial chiding Shrub for something in the AAS, I'd want to say, "what did you expect? you endorsed him."

I guess it takes glaringly obvious before they felt safe enough to get behind Obama.

16. Oh, Good ! Now we don't have to protest AAS on the Congress Ave Bridge
There were some funny protesters that day they endorsed shrub! Good Thing 'cuz it would have taken time away from working for our candidates.
