Poll question: DU/NPL gathering: Fargo or Grand Forks???
Edited on Tue Apr-20-04 09:59 AM by northwest
I just want everyone's opinion on where we should meet up for a get-together if and when we decide to have one.

But just to let you all know, I'm leaving for Minneapolis in the 2nd week of May and won't be back until the 1st week of August. So it would be awesome for me personally if we could for example have some type of pre-election get-together sometime in October, for example.

But to ask the question, Where do you want to meet up??? (Remember: Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo-Dilworth has 160,000 people and Grand Forks/EGF has only 60,000:))

4. I started this idea
And I wanted to do it in GF because I live there. But F/M is alright, I guess. It's only an hour's drive.

Why the DU/NPL Gathering should be in Grand Forks:

-Joe Dimaggio's Sports Bar & Grill in beautiful downtown Grand Forks. A place where classic baseball depicted on giant murals. The pizza's great!

-Ralph Engelstad Arena. Probably the best Hockey stadium that is not in the NHL or it's minor leagues.

-Close to Winnipeg. Many of us DUers need to learn about Canada's next prime minister, Jack Layton!!

7. I didn't vote
since I no longer live there. But I did throw in my 2 cents just for kicks. (Just so you know I didn't sway the poll!) :)

8. Why I want it to be in Fargo:
Edited on Tue Apr-20-04 09:43 PM by northwest
1) Three times as many people here

2) NDSU is a more liberal university than UND

3) Home of the North Dakota Democratic/NPL Party

4) The traffic in Grand Forks can sometimes be a lot worse than Fargo

5) Better roads (13th Avenue vs. Columbia Road is no contest)

6) Better and more restaurants/watering holes

7) More of that stuff downtown Fargo than in downtown GF

8) North Dakota's primary city

9) Home of the 2004 ND Democratic/NPL convention

10) More liberal-friendly

10. Uh, about that...
The Dem/NPL (as with the GOP) is officially headquarted in Bismarck, but Democratic party offices are more visible in Fargo (as with the GOP).

Also, Fargo has A&W/Long John Sliver's. It may not fit the group (or maybe it will) but it does have good, unique (for North Dakota) food.

11. Also, the A&W/LJS is just down the street from
the Democratic/NPL of Cass County. We can deck ourselves in Kerry and Joe Satrom buttons and Stickers.

12. Eeeek!
This is off topic and I'm sorry, but I just have to say this and it is nothing against you CocaCola because I am guilty of it, too, and am trying to stop. I am just tired of people putting down ND in a backhanded way!! i.e. "for ND" comments.

I have lived in a few other states the past few years and I hear sooo many bad things said about ND that I think it is time we stick up for our state!

Edited on Sun Apr-25-04 05:59 PM by northwest
The I-29 construction is complete.

And I drove through GF last October after the Bison/Sioux game, and the traffic REALLY pissed me off.

17. That's because this board mostly consists of
DUer from the Red River Valley. If any Badland DUers (Hello! Are you out there?) want to have a thing in their neck of the woods, they can do that; just spare us the 6-hour car trip.
