The Kansas City school board is calling in the administrative cavalry.
For
$6,500 a week, the board has hired a former top business officer from New York state, Henry Marini, to strengthen what most members think is a depleted cabinet of top administrators under outgoing Superintendent Bernard Taylor.

Marini, who said he could not comment on the state investigation, thinks his work in Rochester was successful.
The district turned its shortfall into a $50 million fund balance within three years, he said. He helped negotiate for increased state funding, identified programs that could be minimized or delayed, and helped negotiate concessions from unions.
In Kansas City, he will help manage a district of some 26,000 students and a $354 million budget.
