Oakland Co. prosecutor: No charges to be filed against Geoff Feiger
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 05:22 PM by Lefty48197
Oakland Co. prosecutor David Gorcyca announced that no charges will be brought against Geoff Feiger for his role in publicizing our disgraced Attorney General Mike Cox's extramarital affairs.
Gorcyca said that there were very specific words that had to be used in order for a crime to have been committed, and that those words weren't used, therefore no crime was committed. That's not quite the way Cox told the story the other day when he held a press conference to announce that he had cheated on his wife, even though he has always held himself up as an example of a "family values" politician.

Here's the link to the Republican sh*twipe Detroit News:
http://www.detnews.com/2005/metro/0511/15/B01-382874.htm

The Free Press link wasn't working, but here's the text from their web page today:

" No charges filed against Fieger, O'Brien in Cox case
Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca said today there would be no criminal charges brought against attorneys Geoffrey Fieger or Lee O'Brien in connection with an alleged extortion attempt against state Attorney General Mike Cox. NEW 2:45 p.m."

2. Cox is a snake and the epitome of hypocrisy
but don't run to Fieger's defense either. We need a new candidate.

There's a reason why the democratic party never touched this one or made any sort of comment.

4. I totally agree
We need someone with no baggage and without Feiger's flamboyance. I was glad to learn last night at an organizing party that there is no primary for attorney general. The candidate is selected at the convention. No way will Feiger be the nominee.

5. That is very true, thankfully!
There is NO WAY the party will nominate him.

6. Sharon, everyone has baggage.

I would be fine with Feiger as AG. Nothing much gets past him and he's a hell of an attorney. A great father, if Nancy Skinner is to be believed, and faithful husband. It could be a heck of a lot worse.

Off topic: How are you? Things are good here. I was driving down around your area the other day and thought of you. Unfortunately your number was at home. :hi:

8. To each their own, I guess
I've never liked him other than the Kevorkian thing. Nancy hasn't been in town long enough to know much about him. He may be a great father, but if it winds up being him vs. Cox I'll have to pass on the race altogether. I doubt very strongly he'll get the party's nomination.

in political circles. I was just saying I've never seen him do/say anything to have me doubt that he'd be a good AG. He's a darned good attorney. :hi:

10. He won't get the nod of the party.
I don't think it will be a concern. Yes, it is to each his own,but the democratic party should be about facts and honesty and he is everything we fight so hard against. He may very well be a good father, but Nancy should talk to people that truly know what goes on in that firm and not rely on him and his groupies. I think she is hurting progressive radio in Detroit by coming out so strongly in support of him.

11. I totally agree with you, Windy
That's basically what I was saying in my post. Nancy had his attorney on this morning, and he's the one who was saying all those great things about how he's a wonderful father, etc. That's all well and good, but I wouldn't want him as AG and I'm confident he won't be selected as our candidate.

12. Yes, he's the last person the party in this state will support.
There are far too many other great candidates out there, who are honest, have integrity and truly want the job for the right reasons.

13. Instead of one liners, perhaps you can back up your comments with
names and reasoning. Personal dislike of a candidate does not mean that the person would not make a good candidate/elected official. Windy, please flesh out your arguments...I'm interested to hear what it is you've got to say and why you would say it, but as of yet, I've seen nothing. I don't much respond to one line, generic responses.

Please list all of the information you have with regard to Mr Feiger's honesty. Links are very helpful.

thank you :hi:

14. I don't believe I was speaking to you directly.
I know someone quite intimately who works at the firm. I am certain that if he presses his complaints regarding Cox to the FBI, etc., that the truth will come out eventually. Because you obviously have great respect for someone you know nothing about, you won't believe me when I say that I can't discuss the things that have been shared with me as this is a public forum and it will be obvious that this information came from someone in the "inner circle" so to speak.

As far as the public domain, go on Findlaw.com and read the Supreme Courts reasoning on Gilbert v. Daimler Chrysler and the reasons why the verdict was overturned...as well as Amedure, Baldimenti, etc.
This is not the Supreme Courts going after Fieger... these cases were overturned because of courtroom tactics that were unethical and tainted the jury. While they were good cases going in, Fieger's lust to be the center of attention and play fast and loose in the courtroom cost these plaintiffs a fair trial and a verdict that would hold up during the appeals process. There is more to being a good lawyer than just proclaiming yourself to be one.

I am so very sick of corruption in politics after the 5 years of watching this administration at work in Washington, the thought that a democrat would support someone who is the antithesis of all we fight against, frankly sickens me. We are supposed to the the intelligent and rational party, not easily swayed by propaganda that his light on facts...

15. It is so often that people "know of someone".
I still say it's personal loathing. On a personal level, he appears quite decent. On a professional level he's a pitbull. How can he be the antithesis of all a democrat would fight against? Were we not in agreement that the people who should be penalized in the medical practice lawsuit arena are the lawyers, and not the patients?

I don't believe I based my opinion of Feiger on what he claims to be. His actions in the Kervorkian case opened the discussion on physician assisted suicide.

Yes, he is a grandstander...but so was Bill Clinton. While I may not like it...he'd still be a fine AG.

I could not stand Kerry, but I still knocked on doors for him. One person's opinion doesn't count for the whole.

Corruption in politics go hand in hand...this administration has just done a horrific job of covering their mess.

Don't worry about not supporting him...there's many who will. :hi:

16. You are entitled to your opinion
And I am entitled to mine. Its not personal loathing at all. I have formed my opinions based upon fact. I will not jeopardize someone's career to spar with an anonymous poster on a pubic forum. While current politics and corruption are certainly intertwined right now, I certainly don't think that the democratic party should condone it and support someone who actively engages in it. The entire air of the Cox scandal should be enough to make one suspect in and of itself.

And I believe a plaintiff hires an advocate to provide the best possible prosecution of their case. That means working for the client and not to "grandstand" to gain attention. Those cases I cited were overturned because Fieger couldn't curtail his flamboyance. A real shame.

I'm not losing much sleep over this as I know that he has no shot of getting the AG nod.

Have a nice day.

Who are you, Judith Miller? Why even bother posting? In case you haven't noticed, YOU are an anonymous poster on this very "pubic" forum.

19. You have just revealed your immaturity
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 10:30 AM by Windy
That was an obvious typographical error.

I really don't care what you believe about me or anyone else. Judith Miller is a administration hack and I certainly don't think that an anonymous poster on a public forum who wants to protect a good friend's career can be compared to Judith Miller. I frankly can't believe that I'm even responding to your post, but its so very amusing!

Hey, you know you may want to try and get a job at the firm. I hear that there are a lot of openings and more to come. :eyes:

22. The jury is NOT still out on Feiger's skills as an attorney
Without a doubt, he is one of the most successful trial attorneys Michigan, or the USA has ever seen. He continually goes into the courtroom seeking justice for his clients, and he usually gets it, and he's usually facing up to the largest corporations and the wealthiest individuals, and their very high-priced legal teams.
To suggest that Geoff Feiger is anything less than a highly-skilled lawyer is ridiculous.

7. They didn't touch it because it was bullshit. Cox knew charges
were not going to be filed a full two days before his trumped up press conference. You may not like Feiger as a person, but he's a hell of an attorney who'd make an excellent AG.
