Maybe Iowa should set the example
It is rare these days for me to venture outside the Iowa forum and there's reason for that -- the Democratic contests of 2008 are upon us and people are getting really ugly.

No doubt we all have strong feelings (good or bad) toward one candidate or another, but I think we can put that aside as we focus on what should be our primary concern: Iowa's First in the Nation status.

Here's what I thinking: we don't squabble in this forum. We refrain from name calling, cheap shots and so-forth. Yes, we continue to discuss the news of the day, but we do so while keeping our First in the Nation status at the top of our thoughts.

Those who have committed to a candidate and/or learn of a candidate's whereabouts will post them and as many of us as possible will attempt to 1) attend those events and 2) further publicize those events within our own circles.

Above all else, we will remember that we want/need each and every Presidential hopeful in Iowa. It strengthens our FitN status and boosts our local economies.

1. Agreed!

It's no secret who I support, but I refuse to resort to the petty attacks that happen so frequently outside of this forum. What's the point anyway? Attacks aren't going to change minds! I have my opinions, we all do, but so far we've been able to share them without attacking and I am thankful for that!

As to the First in the Nation status...I feel it slipping. I fear the fiasco brewing with NH wanting to jump Nevada is just the tip of the iceberg. Eventually we'll need to make a decision, and I hope it is to keep Iowa first!

Nice post Cornfield!

P.S. - I am eagerly, semi-patiently, awaiting your email!! :)

2. What's next??? Ban Debi from posting on Monday through Friday

I will do my best to heed your call Cornfield, because you are correct. Unfortunately I get too caught up in a candidate and my posts get more and more passionate. I will try to refrain from namecalling/flamebaiting/attacking and being downright rude (Seth excluded of course :P).

Unfortunately Seth is correct, Iowa's status is in danger. I can only hope the IDP is keeping track of what is going on!!

4. Debi, you MUST post M-F and Sa-Su, too.
Heck...passionate posts in support of anyone's candidate are great - we should all share why we believe our candidate is the best for the job.

For your sake, Debi, I hope TV drops out of the race early on, so you won't be tempted.

*disclaimer for TV supporters: that was a joke for Debi, not a real wish on my part that he drop out. :)

thx - cs

5. Ah CS - Thank you!
:loveya:

I don't think your wish will come true any time soon - at least not until the first money primary hurdle (if he doesn't have the $$ we may see a Sen. Graham type exit - if he does have the $$ we'll see him around until the State Fair and so on and so forth....).

I will work on only posting news-worthy items and not just gossipy bashing comments.

(But.....can I still remind people that it was TV who, as Governor of Iowa, started us down the slippery slope of losing our status as the First Caucus in the Nation????...that's news...isn't it???)

3. good idea!
Keep Iowa First! :)
But seriously, I like that candidates come here and that we have the opportunity to hear their positions first hand. In fact, I'm hoping to take my kiddos (at least the 6 y.o.) to some events this time around.

In addition, it's possible people here haven't made up their minds, and reading loads of negative stuff is a turn-off and might steer people away from both the candidate receiving negative attention as well as away from the candidate supported by those dishing out negative stuff.

I'm all for spirited debate on the issues, but that can be carried out without resorting to ugliness.
Nice post, CornField.
thx - cs

11. I'm fine with that.
As long as I can still bash Republicans...

That said, I really don't have any blatant attacks against any of the Dem candidates anyway (aside from possibly Vilsack, but even then those are more factual than anything). Besides, saying negative things about a Dem can only bite us in the ass when a nominee surfaces.
