Chicago Sun-Times: Rev. Jackson joins Schiavo fight
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 05:31 PM by Tweed
http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-jesse30.html

"The Rev. Jesse Jackson, who described the court decision to remove Terri Schiavo's feeding tube as "cruel and crude," prayed with the ailing woman's parents Tuesday as she survived without food and water for the 12th day.

"I feel hurt personally by this," Jackson said, echoing concerns of political conservatives after a five-hour meeting with Bob and Mary Schindler outside the Florida hospice where Schiavo lay, her condition deteriorating.

"We should do all we can to sustain life. In this case, she is dying on our control. You're taking away food and water and not even giving her an ice cube for her parched lips. . . . We cannot be that callous about human life."

Schiavo's husband and legal guardian, Michael, denied Jackson's request to pray at his wife's bedside. Michael Schiavo has maintained his brain-damaged spouse would not want to be kept alive by extraordinary means."

This surprises me and I don't understand why he would do this when the bulk of what is going to happen has happened already.

1. Jessie J. having a news conference now--he sounds like a miniter now
providing comfort to grieving parents (although he is still talking about 'life').

2. I think eventually Jesse will point out the obvious

He is pointing out his concern about how a human life is ending.

He can then say, to an audience that normally never give him the time of day, that those who are concerned about a life at the very edge of existence, should also care about the lives of those on death row who may be innocent. Should care about Americans that suffer an early death because our for-profit health insurance system excludes tens of millions of Americans who can not afford coverage. Should care about the hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis, and the thousands of American soldiers, that have been killed or injured in Bush's war based on lies.

Jesse is being consistent, so I will not judge his motives for intervening in Florida.
