ATLANTA (AP) - The 21-year-old son of Georgia's lieutenant governor told police he had been drinking before an interstate crash that killed his best friend, according to a police report released Friday.

Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor issued a statement Friday offering condolences to Gennert's family and saying he was "deeply saddened by this tragedy."

"My broken heart goes out to the family involved for the loss of their son. I cannot imagine how devastated his family must be. I want everyone to please keep that family in their prayers as we deal with this. No parent should ever have to go through this anguish," he said.

Mark Taylor, lieutenant governor since 1998, has announced plans to seek the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican Gov. Sonny Perdue next year.

1. Perhaps someone else should run
This isn't what you'd call good press. This is what happens when you drink and drive. Plain and simple.

2. My son was driving and crashed and his friend was killed ...
two others injured. No alcohol was involved although they'd all smoked pot the night before, the boys were all around 16/17 at the time ...the pain we all went through after such an accident was something I still cannot put into words and it's been 7 years ago ...
