Barbara Boxer supports Bill Nelson
:wtf: Moving to the right?

Being an incumbent is no lock on the Party's nomination for re-election, so why is Boxer supporting Nelson now? Unless there are no primary challengers????

=================

Received by email

A few weeks ago, I told you about my friend Debbie Stabenow who is running for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Michigan. Thanks to your generous support, PAC for a Change contributed $10,000, the maximum we can give, to her campaign -- $5,000 for the primary and $5,000 for the general election.

Well today I'd like to spend just a few minutes talking about another Senate colleague who is up in 2006, and urge you to join me in working as hard as possible for his re-election: Senator Bill Nelson of Florida.

I've gotten to know Bill Nelson quite well through our work together on the Foreign Relations and Commerce committees. He is a tremendous public servant, committed to giving everything he's got for his constituents. I value his friendship and his dedication to the people of Florida.

First elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1972, Bill Nelson went on to serve as a U.S. Congressman, Florida Treasurer, and Florida Insurance Commissioner before his election to the Senate in 2000.

Senator Nelson has been a major proponent of our nation's space program, even spending six days on the Space Shuttle as a Congressman. He shares my commitment to the environment: protecting the Florida coastline and the Everglades, a national treasure, are very important issues for him, all Floridians, and all Americans. In addition, Senator Nelson has been a vocal supporter of Social Security and Medicare, as well as defending Americans' right to buy prescription drugs from Canada to make them more affordable.

It's absolutely critical that we work together to return Bill Nelson to the Senate next November -- because the choices in the election couldn't be more stark.

Just last week, Republican Congresswoman Katherine Harris -- the same Katherine Harris whose partisan antics as Secretary of State helped deliver the White House for President Bush in 2000 even though he lost the popular vote -- formally announced her intention to run against Senator Nelson next November.

Katherine Harris' entrance into the Florida Senate race will unleash millions of Republican special interest dollars -- dollars that will undoubtedly be spent to smear Bill Nelson's record of accomplishment.

That's why it's so important that we join together to help Bill Nelson, starting right now:

Contribute to PAC for a Change today -- so we can support Bill Nelson now and all the way through Election Day next November!

I also hope you'll take a moment to visit Senator Nelson's campaign website, and sign up to join his team.

Thanks for your help and support!

In Friendship,
Barbara Boxer

1. Good for Barbara Boxer
I want Nelson to win and certainly not Cruella.

2. Yeah, a major move to the right.
Boxer is supporting a fellow Democrat and gave several good reasons to do so.

Besides it's very very uncommon for any member of the Senate to support a primary opposition. Remember that Santorum endorsed Specter last year, for example.

3. You Choose:
Katherine Harris (R-FL)

or

Bill Nelson (D-FL)

Uhhhhh! Let me see.....

I think I'll support Bill Nelson.

4. "there are no primary challengers"
There will be none, or only minor ones. Nelson will win any primary easily. He's a moderate, some say he's a DINO, but with Cruella challenging him - the Dems are loving it.

9. "That dino?"
Nelson is a loyal Democrat. He is more conservative than I am, but that's fine. He's still loyal. It's not like he bashes fellow Democrats like conservative Democrat Joe Lieberman.

That distinction is important. Nelson deserves our full support, whether or not there's a primary (and there won't be).

6. Who in the world would challenge Nelson?
He is the most popular Democrat in the state.

7. Nelson's sure not a Boxer liberal, but he's not Zell Miller either.
He gave a rousing speech at a townhall meeting about USSC nominees, etc. Though seeing him and Roberts smiling sickens me. That's either the "You've got my vote" smile or the "Ha, he thinks I'm voting for him."

8. Harris would have to perform three miracles
Even FL repugs are trying to keep Katherine Harris off the ticket, but she'll still get lots of cash for a Nelson smear fest.
An upset would be devastating, so maybe Nelson's fund raising early. Coming light and late against the (undoubted) republican smear campaign is no longer an option.
