Girl dies after collapsing at Disney water park
I found this very disturbing.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/05/disney.death.ap/index.html

The girl was in the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon at about 6 p.m. when lifeguards noticed her lying on a ledge, out of the water, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Lifeguards asked her if she was OK, and the girl told them she was, but then passed out when she stood up.

What's up with Disney and the mysterious deaths?

:scared:

1. You know Disney has cut back on their cleaning crews to save money
and now i wonder if thats also applicable to maintenance of the rides as well.

2. Not enough info to know if it even has anything to do with Disney
Florida is hot right now. Even in water the kid can die of heat stroke.

7. Anything is possible...
We were just at WDW the first two weeks of July --- it was brutal.

The closest we came to having "nice" weather was the day after Hurricane Dennis's tail end slapped us. But before and after that, it was very hot, very humid, and very crowded.

At any rate, I really feel for that poor girl's family right now.

3. Water in the lungs?
I've heard people can drown standing up.

4. Maybe these things happen because a large number of people go there
so the likelihood of people getting sick/hurt is higher than most places, and they get a lot of press because it's Disney parks.

It's like saying something bad happened in New York.

Peace.

8. Very good point. But I've always thought that wave pools were dangerous
Go sit next to the lifeguard tower at a wave pool for an hour or so.

Wave pool lifeguards are the busiest lifeguards I have ever seen.

People get a false sense of security because it's "only a pool" and they allow themselves to get careless and tired.

I've seen lifeguards there rescuing people every few minutes.

5. OK, I'm not feeling to Mickey Mouse happy right now.
We leave for Disney tomorrow morning at 8am :(

In the wave pool, I bet it was a head injury. That bottom is cement. If you wipe out or body surf or even get knocked down, it can get pretty rough. I don't like the wave pool for that reason. But then, I'm a worry-wart mom of a 5yo and 12yo.

9. I've been to this water park about 20 times
It's as safe as houses. The only thing I would say is that the lifeguards should have gotten her parents. Hoverer, in their defense, whenever I've been there, they are on top of everything, and put up with NO foolishness.
