The Reinvention of Sarah Palin - Asheville, NC Rally
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 12:58 AM by VolcanoJen
I threw up a little bit in my mouth watching this:

http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/1008/I_said_hell_yeah.html

In the post is a video of Palin's rally in Asheville, NC Sunday night, starring one-hit country wonder Gretchen Wilson singing her truly awful song "Redneck Woman."

Palin knows all the words (I imagine she was coached) and leads the crowd in the "Hell Yeah!" part. But what really struck me about the video is something Jonathan Martin of Politico didn't mention: Palin's wearing fucking blue jeans!!!!! What a phony!!!!!

 Bwaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!

Yes, yes I know, nothing says "redneck woman" like a cream silk Valentino jacket from Nieman Marcus purchased for you by your benefactors, and $26,000 worth of hair and makeup over two weeks, so I guess I can understand the wardrobe change. But you gotta love how quickly Republicans move from one myth to another, the second they're busted.

They just never change, do they? And they always bank on us having such short attention spans that we'll never notice.

Edited to add: A commenter at Politico wrote something that should crack all of us up: "I'd love to see Cindy McCain singing along to "Redneck Woman." Now that would be a hoot!" Yep! I give it about two more days and I think we'll get our wish. :-)

5. Apples on the ground in WNC are starting to ferment, so
all those people were probably intoxicated from the ripe air.

And blue jeans? Apparently the McCain campaign can't quite figure out what or who they want Palin to be.

In case they haven't noticed, their time is running out. And it can't go fast enough to suit me.

8. They really have no earthly idea what they're doing
That, or maybe Sarah's going "rogue" again?

Also, notice how totally not into it the crowd is. In fact, I think they look a little pissed off, compared to the energy at the Obama rallies!!

Watching this again actually cheers me up a little. :-)

20. Catch this comment on politico - looks like she's failed to convince her base.
Ha. What a fake. She is NOW wearing jeans - her 'own' clothes. ONLY after she was BUSTED. What a phony. I'll take an elitist over this redneck liar anyday.

11. A little bit about Gretchen Wilson.
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 02:02 AM by rebel with a cause
She was born in Pocahontas, Illinois, a village about forty+ miles from St. Louis, Missouri. This is located in Bond county, and I am pretty sure this is a red county. She attended high school at near by Greenville, IL but did not graduate. Greenville also has a Greenville College, a private Christian college. Some information below about her home town of Pocahontas.

"As of the census<3> of 2000, there were 727 people, 309 households, and 194 families residing in the village. The population density was 968.3 people per square mile (374.3/km²). There were 330 housing units at an average density of 439.5/sq mi (169.9/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.62% White, 0.14% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.28% Asian, and 0.69% from two or more races."

"The median income for a household in the village was $28,750, and the median income for a family was $37,000. Males had a median income of $27,361 versus $16,944 for females. The per capita income for the village was $14,562. About 12.5% of families and 13.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.8% of those under age 18 and 17.5% of those age 65 or over."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pocahontas,_Illinois

Edited to add more.

"Gretchen Wilson was born in Pocahontas, Illinois to a 16-year-old mother. Her father left before she was two years old, and she and her mother lived in trailer parks and relative poverty. Gretchen's mother worked as a waitress, and Wilson herself dropped out of the 9th grade at age 15 to work as a cook and bartender in rural Illinois.

Gretchen began singing in small bars around the St. Louis, MIssouri, area at age 17."

"Wilson and her band performed at Republican presidential candidate Arizona Senator John McCain and vice-presidential candidate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's political rally at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 22, 2008 to an enthusiastic crowd of approximately 12,000 supporters. Palin started the rally by exclaiming that she couldn't wait to get (Wilson's) autograph. Wilson played a version of the Heart song Barracuda for Palin. The band Heart had demanded that their own original version not be played at Republican rallies."

Sounds like wilson is mccain/palin people.

Amazing, she has some faint sense of decorum in her withered soul.

16. It's a classic defensive lyric
...Rednecks, like many other groups, have been taugh to feel 'oppressed' by manipulators such as Reeps and various churches. That misplaced anger comes out in songs like "Redneck Woman", "Okie From Muskogee" et.al.

They don't actually know how they're oppressed or by whom, but the self-righteous glow of indignation carries the day, so long as no one makes them think.

But, once someone DOES make them think, then they get really pissed off at the way their chains have been yanked, and they will vote for their interests rather than those of the McPalins of the world.

My son's father took him to this rally.

I believe I will bring him up on charges of child abuse.

It's just wrong.

27. I live in Iowa, and see some of these jackasses with a big old
"Redneck" sticker across the top of their windshield or back window of their pickup truck. 4 times out of 5, you'll see some kind of Confederate flag adornment somewhere on the vehicle as well, in the form of a window decal or license plate frame...

19. This blatant appeal to white trash will not help with most Republicans.
It's one thing to have chimpy Bush, scion of a wealthy and powerful family, clearing brush. It's a wink-wink nudge-nudge to the real Republican base, which are the super-wealthy. Everyone knows that it's just a photo op designed to appeal to the stupid moran voters. Chimpy can be relied on to wear the correct clothes to formal events - even if he is falling down drunk. After all, chimpy is a Deke.

But wearing blue jeans to a public event on a Sunday evening in North Carolina? Tacky. People dress up on Sundays in the south. And nice women don't wear blue jeans when they are the featured speaker at a public event. Nor do nice women sing along to songs like "Redneck Woman."

If you look at the photos from the event, you'll see lots of plants wearing blue jeans in the front two rows, and lots of shocked-looking Republican matrons wearing nice outfits. They're realizing that they just made a big mistake, a serious social faux pas, and they can't wait to get out of there.

This little stunt just turned more old-time Republicans away from the McFailin ticket.

running the country. Do these dopes have any clue how completely done the are? To stupid and full of hillbilly pride to read the writing on the wall...

I love how rednecks, and hillbilly's are proud of their idiocy. Like it's some badge of honor to be a drop-out, white trash fuckhead...

That "everyman" persona is bullshit. I'd like to think most people DO NOT want to be affiliated with uneducated, ignorant, Wal-Mart lovin' hicks. Especially those of us who live in the south, who inadvertently get lumped in with that bunch.
