Volunteers including Howard Dean's mother are searching out potential voters

Andree Dean says Howard doesn't even know she is there.

Volunteers from Vote Today Ohio will be on the Youngstown State University campus until Oct. 6 to encourage students to register and vote early. Among the volunteers is Andree Dean, mother of Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean. "It's just great that they can vote early," Dean said. She said she heard about the initiative from a friend in Long Island, N.Y.

"It's very well organized," said Dean, adding that volunteers were recruited by e-mail.
The group will offer shuttle rides to take students to register and vote early, said Jane Thomason, a volunteer from Brooklyn, N.Y. In addition to YSU, they will also be at the Youngstown Mission and the WRTA bus station.

Sounds like a good group.

Rather than becoming introverted, Mercer said that older people like herself could reach out to younger generations to get them involved in the election. Volunteers said they were excited that Dean is a part of their organization.

"I think it's awesome to be working with her," said Siri De Licori, one of the organizers of the project.

Dean said her involvement in the group is not connected to her son. "He didn't even know I was here," she said.

"He's just happy his mother's behaving," said Mercer.

Good for them.

1. Dean's mom rock and so does Dean
Just found my old Deaf Americans for Dean T-shirt and told my wife to store it for me.

6. We still have all our stuff.
Hubby loves his royal blue sweatshirt, very thick and good quality...with Dean in gold letters. He wears it when it gets cold. People love it.

10. We still have our Dean stuff out in the house too
And his namesake rules the roost too!

My respect for Howard Dean just continues to grow. This country doesn't know what it missed out on!

11. I so agree on that.
They took him down by ridicule. Not just the media, his own party as well. Carville and Begala on Crossfire called him crazy nearly every day. It was devastating.

12. In January of 2004, Carville addressed the state committee of the Democratic Party of GA
I was a state committee member at that time, so I was looking forward to it. I took my copy of his book, Had Enough..., and when it was my turn to talk to him I just handed it to him. He asked if I wanted him to sign it. I told him no, I wanted him to shove it up his ass! The room got really quiet...

I told him that one day his sabotaging of Dean would come back to haunt him. Oh how it makes me happy that I was right!

13. Wow, I love it.
I bet the room did get quiet. Really quiet. Carville is an icon to Democrats. Even here at DU he is loved.

Even when he was messing in elections in other countries, maybe still is, he was just adored because he was funny.

I've had it with him. Don't want to watch him on TV anymore.

14. I stopped trusting him somewhere around the fall of 2003
And I've been openly hostile to him since his that day. He basically said Dean would be the death of the party. I've never heard him admit he was wrong or say one nice thing about Dean, who in my opinion just might have saved the party.

And his marriage to THAT woman doesn't help.

17. Since he asked for Harold Ford to replace Dean right after we won in Nov. 2006
I can not even watch him on TV. Even if he speaks for our side, it doesn't matter.

What he did was so ugly, he involved other high level Dems as well. They did not deny.

4. Dean was in MO today with a nephew of Harry Truman.
John Truman rallies with Howard Dean in MO, says McCain no Harry Truman.

Love it. Even the Trumans are angry about McCain claiming to be like him.

7. Election board denies the group's request for week-end hours.
http://www.vindy.com/news/2008/oct/03/elections-board-denies-request/

"The Mahoning County director said the office will extend operating hours, but not until Tuesday.

YOUNGSTOWN — Members of a group dedicated to early registration and voting in Ohio want to see the Mahoning County Board of Elections open this weekend for registration and voting, but local elections officials say the board is already going above and beyond to serve the public.

Fran Mercer, Jane Toy-Thomason and Andree Dean — mother of Howard Dean, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, have been in Youngstown for three days trying to get voters registered and to the polls before Nov. 4. The women are working as part of independent organization Vote Today Ohio.

According to Dean, the three women were upset over the number of potential voters who did not cast a ballot in 2004. She said the 2004 election is what forced members of the group into action.

The trio has spent time at various stores in the area informing residents about the early voting rules in Ohio."

16. Awesome, all hands on deck
We need everyone we can get at this point. A month from now we can all sit and watch as the country turns blue and elects Obama/Biden.
