Palin Named Two Kids After Television Witches & Wears A Pentagram
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 02:04 PM by cryingshame
Willow- Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Piper- Charmer

She also wears a pentagram. Technically it's not a Wiccan Pentagram, but she's at least smart enough to wear a less visible one. I know Wiccans who've done similiar things when they work at corporations and have to "blend".

The Fundies won't like this.

27. Sometimes a star is just a star
Eastern Star symbols have the points colored in. Incorrectly, of course (backwards or upside down, depending on its representation), but colored in nonetheless.

30. Usually true

I did an image search of ("eastern star" jewelry necklace) and found a few hits that showed non-colored, non-upside down stars. I don't know how likely it is that that is what she's wearing, but I thought it more likely than a Wiccan pentacle given her views towards animals and the environment.

19. I've known Wiccans who wear pendants like hers as a less obvious symbol.
Back before I lost any interest in things of "faith", when I was a rebellious teen mainly being Wiccan to piss off my parents, I even did the very same. I had a star shaped pendant that didn't have a ring around it so it'd be less recognizable but it'd still symbolize the Wiccan religion. Very, very recognizable symbol there. I'm truly surprised the fundies never noticed. Especially with the kids names... how did that go under their radar? I was wondering why her kids were named such hippie sort of names and now we know why I guess. I mean hey, she can practice as she wishes but I do really think it's very hypocritical of her to try to play at being a Christian like that to fool the people who voted her in.

54. Not a pentagram
I know some very conservative, Republican Wiccans who would agree with most of the positions Palin holds, like on guns, hunting and oil drilling, although not the anti-choice ones. The high priestesses I trained under were very conservative, loved Bush and were life-members of the NRA. So were several of the members of the circle I worked with several years ago. The rest of us were liberal. We agreed to disagree on politics and to not discuss it. It's not unknown. I also know a number of pagans and Wiccans who hunt for food. They do it sacrally, taking time to honor the spirit of the animal that they have taken and thanking the gods. However, I very seriously doubt she is Wiccan. For one thing, she is not wearing a pentagram. A star necklace does not a Wiccan make.
