72. I find this whole thread to be
offensive.

This little baby does not deserve to be made fun of.

Trig is a Norse word meaning "true" and "brave victory." The name is in honor of his great uncle, a Bristol Bay fisherman, while the name Paxson comes from the well-known snowmobiling area in Alaska, which Sarah and husband Todd Palin love.

If my own children were making fun of anyone for anything, they would be sitting in their rooms thinking about their "mistake" for a long time. I do not tolerate bullying and I am with a lot of kids on a daily basis - There is no bullying allowed.

You DUers who find it funny to pick on someone who is small and vulnerable should have to sit in your room and think about it....

Again, in Alaska it is not uncommon to name a child after a beloved place or landmark. It is an honorable thing to do here.

Piper is a witch from Charmed and Willow is Buffy The Vampire Slayer's lesbian wiccan friend.

No idea what's up with Trig and Track, though. Maybe they're named after things Mom did in high school, and the next kid will be Second Base Under the Bleachers Palin.

47. These are typical Alaska names
It is a matter of culture, not just native culture, but our greater Alaskan culture regardless of skin color. I know several Willows and Pipers. I know no other Trigs but I am from a very small town so this is not so strange.

Sarah Palin is bad news for the energy crisis, her solution is to drill ANWR. She is also bad news for women, as she is anti-choice. Her children have perfectly normal names though, for the culture they come from.

53. You are disrespecting a regional culture you can't understand
It is not different from an African-American family in Mississippi naming their child "Sheniqua". These are just regional cultural variances. In Alaska it is accepted custom to name your child after a beloved place or landmark. Do you know how many first and middle name Denali's I know? These are perfectly normal names, and only small xenophobic minds would think otherwise.

62. of course they are
Willow is a town in Alaska and is also a tree. It is a popular name. Piper is a small aircraft that we use in the bush, many alaskans own or access small aircraft because most of our state is not connected on the road and it is a popular name.

Why do you care what we name our kids? Isn't the fact Palin opposes your right to choose a bigger problem than her love for Alaskan names?

However by making fun of typical Alaskan names you are not maing fun of her- you are making fun of many of us. We believe our names to be charming and meaningful. It is not a reflection of Sarah Palin here, it is a reflection of your own xenophobia against a culture other than your own.

83. He is Yup’ik but many native Alaskans vote democrat
Also I understand Obama has a great deal of support from native tribes in the lower 48. I don't think he'll lose that.

87. You can't tell me "Track" is a normal Alaskan name
Willow and Piper are hippie names, my grandmother's first boyfriend was named Trigby, and Bristol... I understand the "place name" thing but it sounds like Bristle or Pistol.

64. Twig? Seriously?
Names like that border on child abuse. The other two are odd, but not that unusual.

65. Actually, no, it's Trig.
And no, it's not child abuse.

There is PLENTY to attack Palin on. There is NO reason to attack the names she gave her kids.

78. That was partially a bit of humor (obviously lost)
Trig is odd, but not cruel, as a name like "Twig" would have been.

Maybe you were never bullied INCESSANTLY as a kid, but what a parent names their child can help or hurt them for a lifetime. My mom went to school with an obese girl named "Candy Barr", and she caught crap for her name on a daily basis. My cousin named her baby "Tater Joe"; he's only in preschool and the teasing is already beginning. Bad judgment, imho. Kids are very, very cruel. I grew up with a facial deformity and was teased non stop. Bullying is NEVER a small matter.

And YES, I have posted many times today about her anti women, anti gay, pro Big Oil, anti-environmental policies. She's a shitty politician and a lousy human being.

82. As a matter of fact, I WAS bullied as a kid.
And my last name was often used as fodder.

That doesn't put Trig (or even Twig) on a par with child abuse. This whole business of mocking the kids' names distracts from the very real issues (I'm not blaming you for that, I'm blaming the people who have started several threads with the purpose of mocking the names).

91. Everything in the Lounge distracts from the real issues, but there it is
let people mock away. The Repugs have been mocking us for every damn thing-both real and imagined-for decades now. We need to stop playing nice with these monsters. The right wing mocks Obama for his middle name all the time and Joe Sixpack responds. I wish that it were ALWAYS about the issues; if it were, we would have Kucinich as our candidate. But the American people don't give jack shit about the issues; they care about $400 hair cuts and middle names that "prove" that someone is a Muslim and a "terraist". Hit Palin with everything, hit McCain with everything. They've kicked us all for long enough. If someone wants to make a post about McCain's $500 loafers or Palin's flower children/ pet names for her kids, then let them. It's a discussion board, it's not setting the National DNC agenda.

Willow (1988)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096446/

A reluctant dwarf must play a critical role in protecting a special baby from an evil queen.

The baby's name is Trigger or Trig... Are they named after The Hobbits?

I believe there was a major character named Willow on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and one of the Charmed witch sisters was named Piper. Has this fundie been watching satanic shows about vampires, demons, and witches?

And I'm extremely embarrassed to admit I know this.
