Gender, sexism, power politics and Palin---I'm utterly disgusted.
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 10:21 AM by vaberella
Now I love the idea of progressive women in politics. But this is pissing me off. McCain takes a woman who is so ridiculously inexperienced (what happened to resume) not only to have the second highest office in the country but if he becomes president and something should happen to him (God forbid!) she would have executive power. That to me is utter madness.

And to see these newscasters on MSM talk from MSNBC to CNN to the stupidity of FauxNews about how this will energize the Republican party, how gorgeous she is (because looks mean so much), how impressive she is (in what I'd like to know).

Yet what they forget...what they have always forgotten and keeps them out of touch with us the people. This is not about the Republican party.

Obama said this perfectly. It wasn't about him, it's never been about him, contrary to popular belief. Much like this nonsense, is not about the Republican Party. This is about us, our country and we're giving it over to a person (because her gender really is not the issue in this area of my discussion) with 1.5 damn years of experience as Governor not counting her stint as Mayor of a small state?! I'm appalled.

They've turned all of this into revitalization of the Republican party, into "sticking" it to Obama by choosing a woman. Give me a break. This is a disaster for our nation and to see where our nation is at. McCain spent the last year, roughly, spouting how inexperienced Obama is and now he brings in an extremely inexperienced woman.

Then the promotion by the damn media on the fact that she's a woman and will steal the vote of those last lingering women voters. What?! So now the woman's vote can be bought and sold based on sex alone. Our allegiance is based on our sex and not more on what we think and what we believe in. We are a toy of the Republican Party a ploy to garner attention. Our successes and achievements mean nothing in the face of our sex. And our sex is being manipulated against us and the American people.

MSM AND the McCain campaign are insulting the intelligence of women. Where the hell is Mika on Morning Joe?! Not saying a damn thing (that woman is another Andrea Mitchell for me), she alone disgusts me. She's not even giving a point of view. She's not critiqing this information and showing her position as a woman who feels manipulated. Maybe she doesn't, which shocks me!!

They are assuming the woman's vote is so uneducated, so lackluster, so irrelevant that we are easily manipulated by the face of another woman yet we know nothing about her on the issues. As though we don't care about what she has to say on the issues, just the fact she shares the same reproductive make up as we do. It makes me damn sick. I'm sick, disheartened and pissed by the Republican party and MSM.

They are slapping women in the face, they are marginalizing our presence, and using us as a tool to further themselves and at the same time making our country turn into a damn mockery. Handing our country over to a person who's not done much of anything and turning her into a trophy candidate.

Then we have the issue of the debates between Palin and Biden. MSM continously saying this is dangerous for the Obama campaign because Biden has to go gentle on Palin or it will look like he's (implied) badgering her. What?! She's a damn politician who is supposed to have a strong knowledge of our history and our politics and of course the politics abroad. International relations and economics are supposed to be strong. She can't hold toe to toe with Biden?! Then what hell is she doing as Veep?! What the hell is her purpose?! If she thinks she could handle it then she should be able to stand in the presence of a man like Biden and dish out the same that she's getting. She's going to be murderized and the MSM is saying that she deserves special treatment.

What woman wants special treatment if she feels she's qualified?! Horrifying, really and truly horrifying.

I'm horrified. This is not funny. This is not entertaining this is disheartening. I wasn't expecting much from the Repubs, but this is unimaginable for me. I feel betrayed because by some godawful chance that this man makes it to President with his neonate Veep, we truly will be at the end of America. It's been on the path for 8 years with this it's the end. Because it will keep alive the same stupidity in gender politics, it will show our presence as women is nothing more than TROPHY, all this added by the fact that we have someone taking on foreign politics who hasn't even spoken much on local to national politics.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

This has gotten me even more energized to fight for Obama/Biden and the United States of America, this nonsense cannot go on.

5. Thats exactly what they think.
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 10:29 AM by vaberella
They think ALL women are stupid and unfortunately Palin is at the top to cater to this stupidity and ego boosting. This is a game on McCain's side, he is not serious about the candidacy by doing this and he's turned this election into a joke and the honour of leading our nation is nothing more to him than another notch no his proverbial belt.

2. If Biden does not take the gloves off
it will be a BIG mistake. If she wants to play with the boys she has to be able to get on the field (sorry for the bad sports cliche).

She is clearly a trophy- a cynical offering to disaffected Clinton voters AND at the same time a way to kiss the asses of ultrarightwingnuts- she favors drilling in ANWAR and is anti choice.

Maybe we should be worried.

11. It just drives home the point Obama made last night that McCain..
doesn't get it. McCain attacks others for not putting country first, when it's clear that the only thing he's put first since he got out of that prison is John McCain. He doesn't give a crap about this country, that's obvious from this ridiculous pick of someone who is and will be ill-prepared to be Commander-in-Chief and Leader of the Free World, but was chosen merely BECAUSE of her gender and because McCain thought he could score some political points with her.

7. "Gender advantage"....I just feel as if we've backpedaled 50 years.
Obama was the way of the future last night. He was memorable, inspirational and proved his worthiness of the honour of presidency. This decision has moved us backwards to nothing more than a stepford wife mode and really slapped the status of women in the face. HRC did something amazing, Palin just knocked it down on so level by her presence.

13. I am so incredibly insulted by this pick.
This is how little he thinks of women. This is how little they all think of women. I mean, I knew it, but to have it shoved in our faces like this. I hope Biden destroys her in the debate. If she can't take it, then she shouldn't be in politics. If I was a female GOP politician, I would be beyond furious. He picked a 44 year old beauty queen.

15. I think for the intelligent ones. The ones who are looking for more than just a woman
they will definitely go for Obama. But then I will have to say there are some women in it for the fact she's a woman. Anne Coulter comes to mind. She only supported HRC for the sole fact that she's a woman and nothing more.

18. Enter the ploy toy
Obama has been polite and indirect in the arrogant presentation of the GOP slate, which in fact is an open insult and assault on the democratic process. Apparently Rove, this minor political hack functionary runs the world with games to create puppets. So much for choice or an election. This is just plain a slap in the face.

Which the MSM will generally and pathetically try to fall in line with. Hopefully plain shame and fear will make them give it up and go quiet- even with their jobs at risk.

There is always a relatively polite period when the media will grant space to the presentation of campaign and candidates. Small, grudging, often non-existent space for Dems. Incredibly absurd, enduring acrobatics for the GOP.

Rove will have to yank the chain constantly until November in this unsustainable show of fakery.

25. I agree. I also believe that now she's in the race her background is fair game.
Everything and I mean everything is grist for the mill. I read some of the pious posts about how we shouldn't stoop to their level and I want to :puke:
Let them all be judged by the same standard I say. Whether it be Bill, who couldn't keep it zipped or Lady Sarah, put them all through the same scrutiny.
