Bush honors moms of recently killed soldiers by playing golf with Poppy to raise money for McCain
Bush And Father Do Golf Fundraiser For McCain

July 14, 2008 01:34 PM

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/14/bush-and-father-do-golf-f_n_112629.html

George W. Bush famously claimed to have given up golf out of respect for soldiers in Iraq:

"I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf," he said. "I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal."

But this great sacrifice has taken the backseat to a more urgent concern -- raising money for John McCain:

If you're a high-flying Republican, and you can afford to take next Monday off to fly to Maine, have we got a treat for you.

On that day, former President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush are hosting a high-dollar fundraiser for John McCain near their home in Kennebunkport.

According to a solicitation sent by the McCain camp, for the low, low price of $5,000, you can play a round of golf at Cape Arundel Golf Course, Bush's home course.

"Both President Bush and Governor Jeb Bush will be stopping by to greet the foursomes," the missive promises. "The course is reserved for this private group, and VIPs will be visiting during your round of golf. This event is a great way to end a weekend getaway, and we would be honored if you can attend."

2. Another reason I can't stand golf ...
I apologize to any DU golfers out there, but I've NEVER liked the
sport. In my own personal experience, it seems to attract just the
kind of people I wouldn't want to spend time with.

8. Ditto...and George Carlin shareds our opinion.
It's like golf. I would never play that. The game is probably interesting, to try to put a ball in the hole is maybe fun, but it is these people you have to go and hang around -- golfers -- the rest of them. These dorks in hats and checkered pants. You don't want to be near these people.
Do you ever watch golf on TV? It's like watching flies (UNINTELLIGIBLE) . I get more excited picking out socks. Golf could be fun if you could play alone. But it's these genetic defectives that you have to hang around with that makes it such a boring pastime. Think of the brains that it takes to play golf.

And they all walk around -- they hit ball, they have a crooked stick, first of all, a crooked stick, hit a ball, walk after it, hit it again.

I say pick it up, put it in your pocket, go home, You're lucky you found it the first time, you know. They don't think of these things.

3. 18 veteran suicides per day?
Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 02:51 PM by NYC_SKP
That's what he should be thinking about, and the Huffington Post, too.

Last November when CBS News exposed an epidemic of more than 6,200 suicides in 2005 among those who had served in the military, Katz attacked our report.

"Their number is not, in fact, an accurate reflection of the rate," he said last November.

But it turns out they were, as Katz admitted in this e-mail, just three days later.

He wrote: there "are about 18 suicides per day among America's 25 million veterans."

That works out to about 6,570 per year, which Katz admits in the same e-mail, "is supported by the CBS numbers."

golf, just that he was hosting a fundraiser. And that he and Jeb would stop by to greet the foursomes. It's all very respectful of the soldiers because I'm sure they'll be wearing flag pins.

:sarcasm:

If playing golf with a bunch of right-wing fucksticks isn't enough to make you want to stab a fork into your eye, let's throw in a meet and greet with Jeb and George just to guarantee you'll kill yourself before the day is through.
