Any ideas? I have none, but it seems that such a clear Clinton-camp application of bush/Chenyesque fearmongering offers Obama a superb teachable moment for demonstrating "the Politics of Hope".

What do you think?

1. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

7. Excellent! That reference has to be used. But it comes from an INAUGURAL, AFTER
an election victory. How could it be turned into an effective campaign ad, 75 years later?

From http://www.celebrateboston.com/speeches/fearitself.htm :

"Franklin Roosevelt's 1st Inaugural Speech, March 4th, 1933

I am certain that my fellow Americans expect that on my induction into the Presidency I will address them with a candor and a decision which the present situation of our Nation impels. This is preeminently the time to speak the truth, the whole truth, frankly and boldly. Nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today. This great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself?nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. I am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days.

In such a spirit on my part and on yours we face our common difficulties. They concern, thank God, only material things. Values have shrunken to fantastic levels; taxes have risen; our ability to pay has fallen; government of all kinds is faced by serious curtailment of income; the means of exchange are frozen in the currents of trade; the withered leaves of industrial enterprise lie on every side; farmers find no markets for their produce; the savings of many years in thousands of families are gone. More important, a host of unemployed citizens face the grim problem of existence, and an equally great number toil with little return. Only a foolish optimist can deny the dark realities of the moment.

Yet our distress comes from no failure of substance. We are stricken by no plague of locusts. Compared with the perils which our forefathers conquered because they believed and were not afraid, we have still much to be thankful for. Nature still offers her bounty and human efforts have multiplied it. Plenty is at our doorstep, but a generous use of it languishes in the very sight of the supply. Primarily this is because the rulers of the exchange of mankind's goods have failed, through their own stubbornness and their own incompetence, have admitted their failure, and abdicated. Practices of the unscrupulous money changers stand indicted in the court of public opinion, rejected by the hearts and minds of men. ..."

2. The phone rings and.... it's good news!! Peace has broken out.
Troops are withdrawn, vaccines are discovered and shared, non-profit, jobs are up, the national debt is down, etc.

9. Excellent idea! But how could a 'good news' phone call EXPLICITLY counter Hillary's
ad with its CONTENT, not just through repetition in big media buys?

11. How about, 'Hillary, is that you? Are we going to have to change this number AGAIN?'
You need to get some professional help and move on with your life. There must be better uses of your time than breather calls to the White House in the middle of the night!

The child is asleep, the phone rings, it is a conference call with all the leaders of all the foreign countries...offering "Congratulations for beating the Bush Regime"

10. Another thought:
Child is sleeping, Obama's computer sounds an alarm... a video chat window opens with a soldier talking into a web cam thanking Obama for bringing him home... the red phone is so passe...

19. We need to figure out a way to get this to the campaign. I'm sure they have
people working on responses, but damn, this is really good and ya never know. Either that, or find somebody who can do a You Tube video of it. We have LOTS of talent here !

14. CHANGE. Change the entire mindset this country has been thrown
into. Change terror into possibilities. Change enemies into friends. Change fighting into peace. Change rewarding the rich into helping everyone else.
Change!

18. Exactly.. more scenarios like the one above. Those are things you just can't stop
thinking about.. and SMILING ! Images of world leaders shaking hands, images of New Orleans under construction, neighbors helping neighbors, millions of voices that called out for Change now Changing the world one block at a time.. there are dozens upon dozens of constructs for this. He should saturate the airwave with them.. refocus people on Hope and Change instead of Fear and Loathing.

Hillary will become the laughing stock to the country and world that she is to those who see through her petty, vindictive facade.

Media perception will change, refocus, and the tide will swing back from negativity to the hope that captured us all in the first place.

20. Excellent! I love your specific ideas for images. Add: college students getting $4000
tuition checks, children going to the dentist for the first time, mortgages refinance closings with government help, people reporting for new "green" jobs subsidized by the government, people getting payroll tax rebate checks, etc.

You have convinced me: Why can't political images of the FUTURE be POSITIVE, not NEGATIVE?

21. These are all excellent ideas ! With the money he's raising, he could run these
things like "serial commercials", a different one every week.. like a glimpse into the future of an Obama Presidency. People wouldn't be able to wait to see the next one, especially if the girl who went to the dentist is graduating from college debt free, or if the people who were about to lose their house are taking the foreclosure sign out of the yard as the "Green job" paycheck arrives.

I hope to heck they're planning something.. anything.. I don't want to see him attack like Hillary and this is a way to redirect the subconscious of the entire nation away from the depressing negativity of the Clintons and their pit of slime. Ewww.. thinking of her now just makes me ill. HOPE HOPE HOPE !! :hi:

25. Lifetime of Experience Idea
Open with a small bit of the Lifetime Quote from Hillary...then fade to Obama...saying, "Yes, they may have a lifetime of experience of politics as usual...but I have a lifetime of experience in making America better, I want to bring my lifetime of experience to the White House, join me in voting for Change! Because we can change Washington politics....Yes We Can!

27. Great script for the girl, now an Obama campaigner, in HRC's 8-yrs-ago stock footage
at http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/3/9/141749/2239/935/472989 .

It completely deconstructs the red phone ad!
