Obama's statement and other matters on Nevada caucus results
I received this email:

Statement from Barack Obama:
“We’re proud of the campaign we ran in Nevada. We came from over twenty-five points behind to win more national convention delegates than Hillary Clinton because we performed well all across the state, including rural areas where Democrats have traditionally struggled. The reason is because tens of thousands of Nevadans came out to say that they’re tired of business-as-usual in Washington and ready for a President who can bring this country together, take on the lobbyists and special interests, and end the politics of saying and doing whatever it takes to win an election. It is the kind of politics that feeds our cynicism and distracts us from taking on the real challenges facing America – an economy that’s left working families struggling, a broken health care system, and a war in Iraq that must end.

“We ran an honest, uplifting campaign in Nevada that focused on the real problems Americans are facing, a campaign that appealed to people’s hopes instead of their fears. That’s the campaign we’ll take to South Carolina and across America in the weeks to come, and that’s how we will truly bring about the change this country is hungry for.”

Statement from Obama campaign manager David Plouffe
“We currently have reports of over 200 separate incidents of trouble at caucus sites, including doors being closed up to thirty minutes early, registration forms running out so people were turned away, and ID being requested and checked in a non-uniform fashion. This is in addition to the Clinton campaign’s efforts to confuse voters and call into question the at-large caucus sites which clearly had an affect on turnout at these locations. These kinds of Clinton campaign tactics were part of an entire week’s worth of false, divisive, attacks designed to mislead caucus-goers and discredit the caucus itself.

“We will investigate all of these thoroughly and would encourage anyone who had concern about actions at the caucus sites to call (866) 675-2008.”

Other points:
  • Senator Obama is proud of the campaign we ran in Nevada. We came from over twenty-five points behind to win more national convention delegates 13 to 12 over Hillary Clinton because we performed well all across the state, including rural areas where Democrats have traditionally struggled.
  • Clinton Communications Director Howard Wolfson said, “This is a race for delegates…It is not a battle for individual states…we are well past the time when any state will have a disproportionate influence on the nominating process.”
  • The reason is because tens of thousands of Nevadans came out to say that they’re tired of business-as-usual in Washington and ready for a President who can bring this country together, take on the lobbyists and special interests, and end the politics of saying and doing whatever it takes to win an election.
  • In a very short period of time, our campaign built a strong grassroots network and brought thousands of Independents and disillusioned Republicans into the Democratic Party. These efforts will help Senator Obama compete in Nevada in the general election.
  • Senator Clinton was expected to win Nevada overwhelmingly. As University of Nevada Reno Political Science professor put it – “If she loses Nevada, it’s not just a loss. It’s a collapse.”
  • What’s troubling about the process is that beginning with the lawsuit filed by their allies to suppress turnout among union members, the Clinton Campaign engaged in a systematic effort to mislead and confuse caucus-goers. It is truly a sad day when Democrats try to suppress the vote of other Democrats.
  • The Clinton Campaign also repeated the efforts it made in the closing days of the New Hampshire primary to spread misinformation by launching knowingly false attacks on Barack’s opposition to Yucca, his 100-percent pro-choice rating, and position on Social Security. There have even been reports of push polls and robocalls pushing these false attacks.
  • The conduct of the Clinton campaign makes the case for why we need Barack Obama – we need to move past the old, divisive politics of saying or doing whatever it takes to win that have prevented progress in this country for so long.

1. That's standard website bullshite. Has he, or Clinton PERSONALLY thanked their supporters?
If I were a resident of Nevada, I'd feel pretty disillusioned right about now.

Is it too much to ask that they stop and address their campaign workers with a word of thanks?

he ran around the entire state, while Bill was in the casino excerting undue influence as the former President of the United States.

4. She was 20 points up, she has a popular former President working for her,
she's a former first lady, and she still can't win by more than a few points against a political newcomer without using dirty, dishonest tricks in Nevada and New Hampshire. I can't believe more people aren't sick of her politics.

29. Agreed, what he said.
I am a 62 year old woman who started working for Democrats when I was 15, and walked door to door for JFK. I have worked for Democrats ever since. For the first time in my life, I can say that I will NOT even vote for President if Billary is nominated. I voted and worked for BIll both times, but no more. I am sick of their dirty desperate attempts to regain power. That is ALL they care about. I am 100% for Obama.

anything about Nevada?

Not some bullshit website cut and pasted crap.

Have either of them gone on camera to thank the people who worked their tails off for their votes?

9. Well, your comment is not very helpful.
Something is badly broken in this nominating process.

Candidates swoop in...inundate the area with push-polls and lawsuits and then, before the votes are even tallied...poof!....they are gone.

11. I'll take that as a no, you weren't one of them.
You're just looking for a cheap shot and acting like an ass.
After Iowa he did a phone call to thank all the volunteers and staff. He probably did the same in Nevada.

18. How do you know they didn't?
Were you privvy to the Nevada campaigns where they were contacted by Obama staff and not thanked? Perhaps all the work you did for one of the campaigns leaves you sore for wanting a personal congratulation from the candidate?

I've worked for candidates in the past that thank everyone the night before a race because they will be in the next state or states the following day. If you've ever worked on any campaigns, you know that.

8. Due to the rigorous schedule, they moved on to South Carolina
On the Obama site, there's a video of Obama at UNLV thanking people for working hard on the campaign. I could give you a link, but that might be considered "bullshit website cut and pasted crap"...

Whatever, dude.

Maybe you've just crawled from under a rock, but the candidates on this tight schedule already headed to South Carolina for the next primary date. Should they be shootin' the shit with the fellas and gals at the casino well after the results?

Did you do any work in Nevada and are just waiting for Obama to knock on your door to give you a gold star? Ferchrissakes...

22. Maybe you don't understand how basic time works
The 19th was a Friday. Yesterday was the 20th. As of this posting, it's the 21st.

With me so far? Whatever...

The 19th (which was a Friday) was the...now, get this... the day before the 20th. With me still?

OK, so if a video that was produced on the 19th, which is the day before the 20th, then it's... ready?... the day BEFORE the caucus.

OK. Now if your little head thinks that a video that you see now is two days old, then you need to understand very basic space/time continuum forces. The video was the day before the event, namely the caucus, happened.

Guess what? The video will be three days old on Monday. Four on Tuesday. Five on Wednesday. And guess what? In a week, the video will be 7 days old!!!

Just read this very slowly and I'm sure you'll eventually figure it out.

26. I'm an Obama supporter...
...and I don't know what went on in Nevada, or when Obama left, etc.

However, I do agree with you that a rally and a speech after the election--is always
a good idea. Supporters need to be recognized, thanked and encouraged.

It seems odd that he didn't say anything or make an appearance after the NV caucus.

I'm certainly not going to withhold support because he made an email statement, instead
of one in front of the cameras. However, you bring up a good point, and an in-person
statement would have been more optimal.

27. Ok how about this argument if he wants to get petty

So Hillary beat him by 6% in Nevada and he goes all cry baby by claiming I won more delegates, i won more delegates.

Yet when he wins Iowa by 9%, He only gets one more delegate than Hillary and the Obama supporters went all cry baby over that too.

You can't have it your way all the time, its sounding desperately pathetic.

I've heard people call it a win for Obama in Nevada around here, a tie for Obama in here.

You lot were not fucking doing not when Obama won Iowa and Hillary Lost.

Pathetic.

33. "The conduct of the Clinton campaign makes the case for why we need Barack Obama"
That sums it up nicely. Robocalls, push polls, voter intimidation, "cutting cards" for delegates (surprise, Hilly draws the high card!), wtf? Is this democracy or a Keno parlor in a one-star motel?
