The Reviews are in... Hillary WON the Debate
Edited on Wed Oct-31-07 07:55 AM by Tellurian
The Reviews Are In: ‘Strong,’ ‘Sharp,’ ‘You Won’t See Her Losing Her Cool’

TALKING POINTS MEMO’S JOSHUA MICHA MARSHALL — HILLARY GAVE A ‘GOOD ANSWER’ ON IRAN. “Hillary ‘I will do everything I can’ to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. Good answer.”

HUFFINGTON POST’S GLYNNIS MACNICOL — ‘HILLARY IS SO SHARP TONIGHT.’ “Hillary is so sharp tonight.”

ABC NEWS’ RICK KLEIN — HILLARY IS ‘STRONG, CONCISE, AND SHARP TONIGHT.’ “Clinton is strong, concise, and sharp tonight. She is finding ways to contrast herself with the Bush administration even while defending herself. That’s not easy, particularly given the advanced publicity surrounding all the aggressiveness we’re expecting.”

NEWSWEEK’S HOWARD FINEMAN — ‘YOU WON’T SEE HER LOSING HER COOL.’

CARL CAMERON: ‘OVERALL SHE CAME IN THE FRONTRUNNER…SHE LEAVES THE FRONTRUNNER.’ “Overall she came in the frontrunner, fully aware her rivals were gunning for her. She stumbled at the end but otherwise performed well under fire. Obama and Edwards did not land any knock out blows to change their own situations. She leaves the frontrunner.”

NATIONAL REVIEW’S RICH LOWRY — HILLARY ‘COMES OFF STRONGER THAN ALL THE GUYS ON THE STAGE PUT TOGETHER.’ Hillary’s answer on Iran “was simple and direct. She comes off stronger than all the guys on the stage put together.” [/div

1. They tried ganging up on our Girl! ... and didn't lay a glove on her!
Edited on Wed Oct-31-07 07:54 AM by Tellurian
Tim Russert was unrelenting in his assault on Hillary last night and Brian Williams wasn't much better either. Russert and Williams were in on an assault that characterized Edwards an opportunist looking to capitalize on his "honesty" platform meme until he got slapped down by Dodd and Richardson..and Obama was a stumbling wimp, no more than a bystander witnessing a mugging.

43. The ferocity with which they relentlessly attacked Hillary last night was truly hilarious
Yawn Edwards and Barf Obama showed colors I find beyond distrubing. I have not bashed any of the other candidates before. The gloves are now off.

45. Why should we call Williams and Russert moderators?
They behaved as sycophantic Neocons throwing their weight around attempting to take down our frontrunner!

GRRRRRR!

I have watched the Republican debates and their moderation is a boy's club fun fest. Shame of Russert and Williams!

59. In order to have moderators you have to have a debate. That was no debate.
I'll never understand why the Democratic candidates even allow the bush sock puppet Russert on the same stage.

I'm close to that point as well. Edwards was my second choice after Dean in '04 and wished that it had been Edwards/Kerry instead. He disappointed me last night as did Joe Trippi afterwards with scuzzball Tweety. Kinda sad to see him lash out in desperation.

My current ranking after list night:
(1) Hillary
(2) Richardson
(3) Biden
(4) Kucinich
(5) Dowd
(6,7) Obama, Edwards

71. Agreed..
but change Dowd to Dodd, Mo's not running thank goodness. I thought Dodd also landed a low blow when he mentioned that 50% have said that they would not vote for Hillary. I wonder if he knows the percentage of Democrats, never mind the general population, who will not vote for HIM.

68. Kudos for the Creative Writing lesson.
But maybe you should have excluded "I think I have a good picture of what Bill Clinton faces daily when he's being a typical naughty boy." since you have no idea of if and when Bill is being a "naughty boy." Daily? I disagree with the Obama accolades since on his best day he can not even come close to Bill's "electrifying charisma, but because his ideas, his leadership, his ability to reflect strength and diplomatic reason." (Just because you inserted Bill into the equation.)

69. All the responses you are enamored with were about nuances...
Obama scored absolutely zero points last night. The news media hyped all day long Obama has to come out strong..I saw nothing even remotely resembling strength. Halloween masks, UFO's, Rocky...

Obama got a FREE pass last night. Russert or Williams never asked him about the Civil Rights problem he had over the weekend with the GLBT Community with his controversial Gospel Concert and how it all turned out.

Fan yourself in the corner... and get someone to give you a reality slap. Obama ain't goin' nowhere.

56. Don't forget that Tweety picked up where the "moderators"
left off. The headlines this morning all mostly mention Hillary being ATTACKED by her fellow candidates but they fail to mention the "moderators." It's a replay of "Gotcha Gore" by the M$M and last night should put to rest the fable that Hillary is being propped up and being "shoved down our throats" by same M$M. Even after last night I still refuse to bash fellow Democrats but I will say that Edwards more-so than Obama disappointed me in his personal attacks. Maybe Joe Trippi is trying to make up for Dean.

They work better than a partisan commission because the legislation gets passed.

9. a bi-partisan commission
is a smart path to take, in my opinion. Unless you dig into the problem in a bi-partisan way, how will you know what you're REALLY faced with and, with that info, what will and won't work? I guess we could take the * approach and just bomb it to death and rape it's resources without learning anything about it, but I support actually digging to the bottom of it and discovering what state it's really in before taking action.

37. Gotcha
OK, she was the first lady for 8 years working closely with Bill. And she's been a Senator since then. And you actually believe that she doesn't know the full breadth of the SS situation without first forming a commission? And she just doesn't have any idea at all as to what should be done to fix it? That's just willful blindness.

Of course Hillary knows what she'd like to do with SS. But she doesn't want to commit to an answer for fear of alienating voters. That isn't leadership; it's political strategy.

39. all of that is true
but we've also gone through 7 disastrous years of * and, after that, it'll be imperative that whoever is President dig into SS and see where it currently stands and, with that info, what will be the best remedy. You may call it political strategy -- and that's fine --, but I call it intelligent leadership.

Agree to disagree, I guess.

How about her answer to the question of whether she agrees with the proposal to give drivers licenses to undocumented workers? Was that intelligent leadership too, or was that fear of articulating a position?

HRC wants it both ways on many many issues. Again, that is not leadership. It is a calculated strategy not to offend.

In spite of Obama's well rehearsed answers, he still came off as 'rope a dope'. Edwards with all his facial contortions (can't look at him) sounded like a sainted whiner throwing accusations of honesty at Hillary until he got called on his personal attacks and HAD to be told to STOP!

It appears all Edwards cares about is destroying our chances of getting a Democrat elected president next cycle.

Put anyone else in her shoes last night, and they wouldn't have made it through the night as aptly as the Goddess of Peace did. Not only did the other candidates have her in the crosshairs, but so did Tim Russert....ALL NIGHT LONG. Considering that, she did extremely well as she stood there getting bombarded.

What I'd like to know is where the hell was John Edwards during the 2004 presidential campaign? Maybe if he could attack during THAT campaign as well as his personal attacks on Hillary latley, maybe he wouldn't have gotten so creamed by asswipe Cheney.

Still, she continued her strategy of avoiding direct answers to questions: She wouldn't say how she would address Social Security; she declined to pledge whether she would stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, or say whether she supports giving driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

53. I agree, Obama was a friggen joke..
he had all the support in the world from Russert and Willams plus backup from his asshole buddy, Edwards...and he didn't go in for the KILL...because he doesn't know how!! He's a weak, wimpy excuse for ALL the people he alludes to in his delusional reincarnations...from Lincoln to Rocky...Obama is a delusional, pathetic excuse for a candidate!

61. Clinton got spanked...
Her campaign is starting to crack at the seams.

You can trash Edwards and Obama all you want. Both spanked her nicely and she got more shrill as they exposed her. It was cool.

36. About the "debate"
It is supposed to be a debate. Regardless of who I am supporting in the primaries, I strongly believe that the debate time should be evenly distributed. The MSM has already selected our nominee and that is all well and good, except that there are other candidates who have good messages to get across and are unable to do so when two or three of the "top tier" are placed in the center of the stage and the majority of the questions are directed at them.

55. Who in the hell can watch the facial contortions continuously of an opportunist
trying to score points by playing the "honesty" card...until Dodd handed him his ass.. and backed him up about 20 ft until Edwards caved in and admitted for all the world to see, his hands are far from clean! Edwards sells hypocrisy with ease, never looking back at what he and Elizabeth do while they go on their merry way unconscionably assassinating people's characters, while they are guilty of exactly what they accuse other of!

become a referendum on war with Iran.

It should be about Health Care, fiscal responsibility, and ending the occupation of Iraq.

on Drivers Licenses to Illegals??? she tried to answer BOTH ways. waffling is the best word to use. besides she said Joe BIDEN was correct/Right three times... so Joe is right, and she deserves AF1? I think not!

50. I only wish life was full of either yes or no answers, but that's not the case.
What bothers me is how Hillary bashers cannot grasp even the simplest of concepts, of how she explained her feelings on what is being dumped on the Governors of our country because of the failures of the corrupt Bush administration.

I am totally against illegal workers, however they are everywhere breaking laws we are all required to follow. Driving without valid drivers licenses is a prime example. Hillary's response was not black and white. She indicated that while she doesn't support Spitzer giving the 3rd category of licenses to undocumented workers -per se, she does support his attempt to smoke out the undocumented workers.

An excellent example of this would be if you were to ask me if I support making children sick.

No, of course I don't. But if giving a child an innoculation that makes her mildly sick to protect her from an illness that could kill her, then I support giving the innoculation.

51. Yes, you do..
You just conveniently don't understand what Hillary said. As I said before, the license question was not a Federally related question. The license question referred to a program the Gov of NY is floating to get a handle on the million or so illegals driving around in NY.

58. What it basically boils down to it is that illegal immigration
will be the '08 wedge issue with the M$M being the driving force behind it. Just like with same sex marriage where states, Ohio being one of the many, had it on the ballot.

63. She said yes and no...
as well as she, implies she has experience via Bills coattails. yet advocates the slowness of the national archives releasing her correspondence with bill... also says "Joe is Right" three times, then holds herself back and just says everyone on the stage is correct. so does she really have position? or just expects to be president on everyone else's ideas?

"I think that our responsibility as presidential candidates is to be in 'tell the truth' mode all the time," Edwards said.

Here's part of his latest on the debate:

"It's almost as if her background as a serious policy person is coming back to bite her. She can't restrain herself from injecting actual policy discussions into her public presentation as an annoying teflon frontrunner."
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/

Yup, she really won. I guess being called "an annoying teflon frontrunner" is winning now? LOL

83. I don't know if she 'won' per se...
but the blows she received were not fatal. She survived attacks from both Edwards and Obama (both appeared a bit desperate) and I think in the long run it will probably hurt both of them. Women don't like to see men gang up on another woman. I thought Hillary was fine for the most part. I thought she laid out her actions for Iran well and it made sense to me: No War with Iran BUT we cannot sit back and do NOTHING. The undocumented worker issue is more complex than most people would like to believe. She stumbled a bit but not in any way that will do any permanent damage.

AFSCME Endorses Hillary:

This is no time to take chances. We need someone who knows how to fight and knows how to win. Sisters and Brothers, Senator Clinton is a seasoned fighter. Believe me, she knows how to fight and she knows how to win.
Some of you may have seen last night’s debate.

Six guys against Hillary.

I’d call that a fair fight.

This is one strong woman.

This is the Democrat with the strength and experience to make change happen.

This is the Democrat with the strength and experience who will always stand up for working Americans.

This is the Democrat with the strength and experience to take on the Republicans in the fall.

This is the Democrat who can win the White House in 2008.

There is no other candidate in either party that takes the constant attacks that she takes. And over and over again, she responds strongly, not always perfect, but given the relentless attacks, she's improved my impression of her.

I'd love to see the ANY of the other candidates take the attacks she takes.
