A lot happens on the street.
Your neighborhood, your front porch, your front door--these are often the places where you meet and greet the world. And that's why Working America canvassers show up there, day after day, to meet hardworking families and find out what's on their minds.
Now, you can take a peek into our world--in your world. Working America canvassers are the people who knock on doors to talk about work and rights with people like you. And they're sharing their conversations at Word on the Street. Like this one:
"A woman today shared with me the story of herself and her friend....They had each given their current employer a month's notice and were fired on the spot!" -- Renee Chandel, Maine Working America canvasser
Yikes. We hear stories like that all too frequently. Sometimes we hear things that warm our hearts, too:
"I canvassed a Spanish-speaking mother who was extremely gracious about the work we are doing. She immediately identified with the high cost of health care, and when I translated the goals, she was particularly impressed that we were working on education. She said she wanted her children to have a goood education to have a better life." -- Alex Tinker, Oregon Working America canvasser
Alex's experience is pretty normal. Most of the people we meet share similar concerns--and hearing them helps us shape the work we're doing at the local, state and national level every day.
It's especially good to hear that people stay involved, like this Ohio member:
"I met a very active woman while I was canvassing today. She was a member already, and I had signed up her husband earlier. Right away, she started talking about how she loves the Health Care Hustle e-mails that Working America sends her." -- Jonathan Middleton, Ohio Working America canvasser
Read more stories from the street. You'll find out what real working families are saying about what's important to them. And please join the discussion, because the conversation doesn't stop at the door. It continues every day online.
Thanks for all that you do.
Sincerely,
Working America
