Church is plunged into deeper disgrace by more sex claims
The Times October 29, 2005

By David Sharrock, Ireland Correspondent

The crisis in the Irish Catholic Church over sex abuse deepened yesterday as another diocese revealed figures for the number of priests facing allegations.

Fifteen priests have been accused of sex abuse over a fifty-year period in the largest Catholic diocese in Northern Ireland, according to figures released by the Diocese of Down and Connor. The figures come on top of the 21 priests identified in an Irish government report published three days ago on the Diocese of Ferns, Co Wicklow, and the 26 priests facing allegations in the Diocese of Derry.

Yesterday the Irish Independent published the details of its own all-Ireland survey, finding that more than 241 priests have been accused of child sexual abuse in the past 40 years.

The newspaper contacted all of Ireland’s 26 dioceses and 23 responded. It said that of these, 22 priests had been convicted while many more of the accused are dead. The final figure could be higher, because the current total includes only priests who worked directly under a bishop serving a diocese and not clerics who served exclusively with religious orders.

1. Chicago just announced 24 more settlements
and that none of the dozen or so guilty priests were in a position to "minister" to children anymore. But the details were sparse, to say the least.

We in America suffer from myopia and forget that this Church has acted like this not just here, but in a similar manner across the entire globe. It is, at the very least, acting like a criminal organization.

3. Around here they sell real estate.
They have multi-million dollar properties to dispose of, mansions donated to them. Also, they are closing churches due to lack of people, so there's more real estate to sell.

8. Umm...from the sheeple, I suspect.
I'd love to hear the excuses the sheeple must tell themselves.

Must be the same excuses that allows parents to ship their kids off to die or be maimed or scarred for Empire, oil or Israel.

It never ceases to amaze me that priests aren't being offed regularly by the fathers of the victims.

5. But they are doing such a good job at kicking LGBTs out
and now they are getting ready to purge the clergy of gay priests, while leaving the pedophiles untouched.

7. Sexual urges are biologically inevitable.. For too long, people have

just looked the other way and pretended that "it never happened"..

There is just something odd about a man (used to be young men mostly) who would willingly accept a life of celibacy. Well we are finding out that they talked the talk, but lots never walked the walk.. they just covered up for each other..

The ones who leaned toward pedophilia, found a treasure-trove of kids, whose own parents pushed them toward "churchly duties" and right into the lair of the predatory priest..

The ones who liked adult women, found a gaggle of nuns at their disposal, and failing in that endeavor, often found congregations with many women, eager to get "counseling" for failing marriages that were difficult to get out of..

The ones who were homosexual often found the idea of living with other men )often like them) to be an appealing lifestyle, and unlikely to be subjected to idle gossip, since they were perceived to be "men of God"...

Religious "leaders" are NO DIFFERENT from the general public, and everything that is in the general public, is in the clergy..

It don't know why people continue to be surprised at it..

The nasty thing that churches do is to cover up the abuses...because they fear a stoppage of money if the "bad stuff gets out".. They don;t really care that much about stopping the abuses, but they care a lot about people finding out..
