Dean rips Republicans in Naples....article, long video. Proud of him.
Edited on Mon Apr-18-05 11:52 PM by madfloridian
Most of this video is applause and ovations. He is saying a lot of same things we hear, but they are loving it there in the heart of Jeb Country. I am very proud of him and what he is doing. I think the attacks on him are counter-productive. Let me tell you, those people in Naples are eating this red meat up. Shame on all of us here and at Kos for being so damned afraid of speaking out clearly.

Go Howard Dean, this is wonderful speech. It is not just a video snip, the long version.

http://www.naplesnews.com/npdn/news/article/0,2071,NPDN_14940_3710665,00.html

"The thing that bugs Howard Dean most about Florida is the way elections are run down here.

Never one to mince words, Dean's favorite for describing Republican leaders on Monday night was "corrupt." When talking about Florida elections, he made no bones about pointing specifically to Gov. Jeb Bush and Secretary of State Glenda Hood.

"We need to have fair election laws in Florida," Dean, the Democratic National Committee chairman, said in an interview with the Naples Daily News just prior to attending a local Democratic party fund raiser. But he wasn't hopeful it would happen soon.

"The Republicans clearly aren't going to clean up (Florida's) election problems," he said.

The Collier County Democratic Club enticed Dean to mostly Republican Naples — "behind enemy lines" they call it — because local party operatives managed to turn out for Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry 107 percent of the total number of registered Democrats for the November election.

The former Vermont governor and one-time contender for the Democratic nomination to run against President George Bush came to speak at their annual fund-raiser. He drew an enthusiastic crowd of more than 500 to the Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club."

2. Good clear video, about 21 minutes wrong.
If you really want to know what he is saying about abortion, take the time to view it. He got huge applause for saying a woman has the right to make up her own mind.

6. Figure out what they did and do more of it -
"The Collier County Democratic Club enticed Dean to mostly Republican Naples — "behind enemy lines" they call it — because local party operatives managed to turn out for Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry 107 percent of the total number of registered Democrats for the November election."

9. They followed Dean's advice.
SPEAK OUT CLEARLY ABOUT WHAT DEMOCRATS STAND FOR!!!

Just beating up on BushCo makes people defensive. Tell them what progressive Democrats will DO and why that's GOOD for them!

I am so jealous. They just keep cheering. I doubt that anyone will pay attention. Much more fun to bash.

12. He IS awesome! I saw him at the CA Dem convention this past weekend.
Shoot, but he knows how to fire up a crowd. We were roaring, jumping up out of our seats again and again, clapping and cheering repeatedly and explosively. It was manna from heaven; eyesight to the blind; food to the starving; cool, refreshing water to the parched and withered. GAWD but I love Howard Dean! He's our Moses. He'll lead us to the Promised Land, even though he might not get there with us.

There's a lot of nit-picking on his latest abortion comments, and I wish everyone who's uncomfortable about them would just pause a moment and take a deep breath, and try to look at it objectively, and - most important - STRATEGICALLY. I think if those who are hesitant try to be even a bit dispassionate about it, they might see that he's just absolutely SPOT-ON. Hey, if nothing else, just sit back and give him a chance to work for a little while. Let's see what results come from his approach.

Or maybe business as usual is preferable? Like maybe what the rest of our "leaders" have done for us up til now has gained us all that much? I'm for trying a new prescription or two.

13. Nice post. The people in Naples got what he meant for sure.
This is going on at all the forums now. There is a post at Kos tonight on which new people are appearing to attack Dean viciously. I checked. They have no other posts or comments. One person posting there has a blog which does nothing but attack Dean, one post saying recall him.

Something is going on. I am trying to check out some of the issues, but it is hard to connect it to where I think it is coming from.

It makes me upset, not because Dean should not be open to criticism. It is because this is orchestrated at places it usually does not happen.

It is of concern because it is starting so early on in his chairmanship.

24. Dean got a jump on the New$ Corporations when he ignored them.
They got their backs up and decided to ignore him. By the time they realized that his message was getting out without them, and he was being met with large enthusiastic crowds, it was the eleventh hour. Now they have to send people in to try to pick apart his speeches word by word, sentence by sentence, and divide the party.

And it is starting to work. I am seeing posts where people think Dean is making a BIG mistake (Oh, I'm afraid to speak out, where is the DLC? mentality.)

He is going to be misquoted, slandered and slurred by the New$. How we react is going to decide the fate of the Democratic Party.

As to those paid RNC bloggers, and the attacks on Dean, I am hoping that by being so negative, it will have a negative effect on the RNC.

25. You should see Kos tonight. It is really attack mode.
On the blog by Kos on front page. New people, coming just tonight. No reasoning no listening at all. It is going to be destructive.

26. Just read it. The DLC is out in force calling for his resignation.
Sheesh, not only do we have to fight the Rethugs, but also the Rethug lites.

I thought at first that it might be trolls, but on reading realized it was the Chickensh*t Wing of the Democratic Party. OHHHHHH, don't say that, people won't liiiikkkkkeeee us.

Say it DEAN!

16. Is the CA convention online at CSPAN?
I'd like to see it if it is. I haven't heard about CSAPN covering it though. I always enjoy hearing Mr. Dean speak. Of course I like it when any democrat speaks. :)

18. They won't.
There is something going on at all the forums which is a little out of the ordinary. There is something going on in my area that is having a little odor as well.

Hard to pinpoint. A wing of the party working undercover to undermine him, but not necessarily the one I usually gripe about.

Some are trying to check it out. Doubt it will work. I actually suspect some progressive groups of a little orchestration. Hard to follow on the internet.

What a shame.

I am surprised the news site carried the whole thing. I hope someone grabs a capture of it. I am not set up to do that right now.

21. More about the little picture, for a Christmas card.
Darron R. Silva/Staff
Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, poses with Sally Lam, vice president of the Collier County Democratic Club, during the club’s Gala ‘05 at the Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club on Monday night. Lam told Dean the photo was for her Christmas card. Dean, a former Democratic presidential candidate, was the featured speaker at the event.
