Common Cause - Holding Power Accountable
http://www.commoncause.org/

Common Cause, a PAC whose mission statement is "HOLDING POWER ACCOUNTABLE" cold-called me this morning. Right now they are working to bring more exposure to the DeLay issue and make known the critical information that would result in his forcible removal from office.

They explained their strategy, then asked if I could contribute $100. I told them that sum was too high for me but that I did want to contribute. I ended up donating $30.

I was impressed to find out that this organization has been operating on the principles of holding power accountable and encouraging participation in the political process since 1970! I thought this type of organization sprung up in the last few years to deal with the mendacity of Bush, so it was a pleasant surprise to see how long and established this organization is.

From CommonCause.Org, About Us:

Common Cause is a nonpartisan nonprofit advocacy organization founded in 1970 by John Gardner as a vehicle for citizens to make their voices heard in the political process and to hold their elected leaders accountable to the public interest.

Now with nearly 300,000 members and supporters and 38 state organizations, Common Cause remains committed to honest, open and accountable government, as well as encouraging citizen participation in democracy.
