1. Stairway to Heaven
And Chicago's 'Color My World' (I think that's the title). Both big hits on the high school prom circuit in the 70s. At least in Michigan.

6. "Color My World"
by Chicago. It was the theme of my prom in '76.

Also, the other ubiquitous slow song from that era: " "If" by Bread.

15. "Forever Young" - Alphaville
"The Flame" - Cheap Trick
"Time After Time" - Cyndi Lauper
"Crazy For You" - Madonna
"Making Love Out of Nothing At All" - Air Supply

I imagine all of these would have been popular in the 80's at proms (I love 80's music).

22. For the love of all that is holy, WHY????
Prom songs are almost always the worst of the worst.

Remember the kids on the prom planning committee? Yeah, that's right. These guys weren't listening to Husker Du or Translator. They thought John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band was cutting edge.

End result: "Tender Years", a cheeseball Springsteen rip-off, was the song.

But our junior and senior prom was right in the middle of disco.

So pick a disco tune, any of them.
And don't say you hate all of disco!

To this day I absolutely HATE "Come Sail Away" by Styx.

I wonder how many graduating classes had to sing that gawdawful second verse?

32. Oh, and half the songs on the FLASHDANCE soundtrack, especially
"I'll be Here where The Heart is," by Kim Carnes. I can hardly describe the effect I remember that song having on some people at the parties I attended in the 80s. It was remarkable. And a beautiful song.
