Just Saw Avatar!!!!
It was just amazing. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Honestly, the most breathtaking movie in a generation.

I could have watched it again, easily. It was over 2 1/2 hour long and it could have lasted another 3 and I would have happily sat through it and still wanted more.

Just phenomenal!

1. Thanks. What did you think of the story?
Was it a good tale, too, or mostly a special effects fest? I'll see it either way, I'm just curious.

2. The story was equally amazing!
Honestly, there is not a single flaw in this movie. Beautiful from start to end. Excellent acting. Excellent story. Excellent direction.

You will NOT be disappointed in ANY way!

I really could have sat through it again immediately.

The only people who will have a problem with this film are the extreme right wing, and for that I pity them; pity for their inability to see past their own misguided beliefs.

I have never seen a film that satisfied me more than this. I'm still grinning ear to ear about it. Just breathtaking!

18. Yeah, a fundie friend of mine was bitching about the "overly eco-friendly
message" of the film. "Overly eco-friendly"? Since when were we all supposed to be hostile toward creation?

Unobtainium.

Unobtanium?!?

Really? In twelve years that's the best name they could come up with?

3. OH! and the 3D was astonishing!
Absolutely the best use of digital 3D to date! It's definitely worth the extra couple bucks.

28. It was a pretty good story.
They had to walk a very, very fine line for it not to turn into FernGully but in each case, it stepped back from being incredibly hokey.

The characters are pretty cookie cutter, but the real main character is the world and it's very engaging.

31. Hahaha oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought of Fern Gully

Not that I intend that as an insult - as you said, just when it was nearing the precipice of become a preachy message movie, it dialed back and focused on characters or action. I thought they did the "save the rainforest" thing as well as you can without turning it into a sermon.

I've never (no one has) ever seen a movie like this before, visually. Completely redefines fantasy sci-fi movies.

10. Here's part of Roger Ebert's review
""Avatar" is not simply a sensational entertainment, although it is that. It's a technical breakthrough. It has a flat-out Green and anti-war message. It is predestined to launch a cult. It contains such visual detailing that it would reward repeating viewings. It invents a new language, Na'vi, as "Lord of the Rings" did, although mercifully I doubt this one can be spoken by humans, even teenage humans. It creates new movie stars. It is an Event, one of those films you feel you must see to keep up with the conversation."

17. I hope he makes a sequal!
I wanna see it again real soon, but it'll have to be in IMAX 3D! The $4 theatre I watched it at (the only LOCAL one!), had shit for picture quality. So I'll take a 35 minute drive up to VA see it in all its glory.

29. It's very franchisable.
Edited on Sat Dec-19-09 08:48 PM by wickerwoman
Of course the corporation is going to come back.

No way in hell are they going to invest all that money in creating that world with no possibility that they could set another story there.

32. lots of movies are 'franchiseable' as video games, but not in additional theatrical films.
Edited on Sun Dec-20-09 12:11 AM by dysfunctional press
i'd be very surprised if they make a movie sequel, especially considering how long it took them to make it.
most movies that become multi-release franchises are planned that way from the beginning...for instance- when lucas made 'star wars' it was the fourth chapter in the overall story that he envisioned from the get-go. afaik, cameron has no plans for any additional stories on or about pandora.

34. Why would something be franchisable as a video game but not a film?
http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/Ozymandias/news/?a=12612

"Cameron promises more from the universe of Avatar..."if we are successful then we'll make more films, and that world will continue to flesh itself out and be a place that fans can go to.""

Nobody invents a frickin' language for one film. It took him twelve years to do world-building and invent the technology. With those things in place, he can crank out sequels until the funding runs dry.

And for every franchise that was planned (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, The Matrix) there are dozens that weren't (Alien, Halloween, Indiana Jones, Shrek, Jurassic Park, X-Men, Batman, Rocky, Die Hard, Terminator, Lethal Weapon, etc.)

I saw it tonight in 3D and loved it - I'd really really really love it see it on an IMAX screen. I love a good, well-done epic, and this movie really sets the bar for that type of film. Very, very amazing - I'd like to see it again too.
