Favorite "Fawlty Towers" episode?
Of all of the gems of that show, for me my favorite was "Waldorf Salad". Everything clicked perfectly in that episode.

2. Those Americans sure are bastards!
I love that episode too, but the one with the Germans and the multiple Basil head injuries? Amazing, definitely my fave.

3. The Germans
"Don't mention the war!"

"Ve didn't start it."

"Yes, you did! You invaded Poland!"

I liked the series, but no other episode comes close to those moments.

I still laugh heartily every time I hear it.

8. Dragonfly!
The one where Basil bets on the horse (Dragonfly) and has to give up the money to repay the hard of hearing (among other things) woman for the broken vase.

10. A tie for me
The Germans, and the food inspector/lost rat.

"Basil!...Basil!...He gone!"

Just saw the rat ep a couple of weeks ago and laughed as hard as I did the first time I saw it, years and years ago.

11. Has to be "Gourmet Night"
The thrashing of the car was priceless, as was the Greek chef in love with Manuel...

"I should have never hired a Frenchman"

"He's Greek, Mr. Fawlty"

"Well, that's worse- They invented it"

14. That's probably my favorite scene
Basil: Come on, start, will you!? Start, you vicious bastard!! Come on! Oh my God! I'm warning you — if you don't start… (screams with rage) I'll count to three. (he presses the starter, without success) One…two…three…!!Right! That's it! (he jumps out of the car and addresses it) You've tried it on just once too often! Right! Well, don't say I haven't warned you! I've laid it on the line to you time and time again! Right! Well…this is it! I'm going to give you a damn good thrashing! (he rushes off and comes back with a large branch; he beats the car without mercy)

but I really loved the one where Manuel had the pet rat named Basil.

I'd say it's a toss up between "The Germans" and "Hotel Inspectors."

20. You really can't split them. A scene that always cracks me up to
the max is when Basil finally understands that Lord
somebody is actually a con man.
When he clinks those two bricks together. Priceless.
Even at that stage he is contemplating that the housebricks
might be something more valuable.
Cleese put so much into this show, it's no wonder he had
emotional dufficulties for a while.
I think he's out of the woods now though.

21. I'm tempted to say 'The Wedding Party'
because in it we get to see Polly first without a bra (and it was apparently rather chilly in Torquay that evening) and then without a shirt.

But I've narrowed it down to three: "Gourmet Night," "The Germans" and "The Kipper and the Corpse," the latter for its absolutely marvelous French farce quality.

I like "Waldorf Salad" least of the 12, because Mr. Hamilton is such an asshole. (Though it has the classic line, "Everything's bottoms, isn't it?") Ditto with "Communication Problems" and Mrs. Richards.

22. Definitely the Germans.
The sight of John Cleese goose-stepping across the dining room is among the best things ever broadcast.
