MODS: Can we have a Freeptard Tombstone Forum?
Edited on Wed Feb-28-07 04:46 PM by maxrandb
I'm sometimes disappointed when I miss the ravings of the "powdered sugar mailing, 34 years old still living in my mom's basement, penis stained Cheeto's orange Freeptard".

I have a pretty stressful job, and the occasional ranting of the wing-nuts provides some comic relief.

Any way to put these posts in a separate forum instead of permanently deleting them? We could call it "Cemetery of the Absurd", or something.

1. Ooooh! I'd like that!
It would be sort of a museum dedicated to the asinine and the snappy comebacks they warrant.

3. Not only that
but I get extreme pleasure out of some of the DU smackdown responses.

It seems tragic to lose all that material. Often, I'll use something I've read on DU to smackdown a Freaker at work, or on the street.

I'd also like deleted threads put there so that people could read them but a freeper tombstone forum would be great.

4. How About This Idea...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x310273#310855

I don't think we need a "Freeper Cage". Several other sites are out there that troll this and other sites and that's all they do. The good thing about DU is we stick to our business and issues and aren't bothered with engaging the moonbats.

9. Wouldn't that be discrimination against the poor or struggling?
While I have no problem with tossing a few bucks in during the fund drive, these last few weeks have been really tight and I'm counting my change, I'd hate to see people kept out because of financial difficulties.

26. Please Read Carefully...
I have sponsored several DU members...and have put out messages to those who have financial troubles in becoming a member here as it wasn't that long ago I was in a similar straights...and feel fortunate not only to be able to assist in the financial costs here, but to help others who would do the same if they could. I know there are many others here who have done the same...and as I said in the other post, I will gladly continue to do so as long as I'm a DU member.

My proposal would have a free forum that would be similar to the most popular DU forums that new members can get their feet wet, make connections with existing members and become a valuable member to our growing community...while isolating the trolls and trouble makers. If there's someone who desires to be a DU member, cost shouldn't...and at least on my part...won't be a problem.

30. I hate to tell you this but,
despite our rules here, we do play with our mice sometimes. It's irresistable though well beneath us and I'll admit I've indulged from time to time. I know I'm supposed to alert but instead I'll egg on the moran until it's obvious that he's (let's be honest - it's usually a he) mostly dead, then turn 'em in. My bad but I know I'm not alone. Heck, it's funny to watch even though they are so very outgunned.

39. Nothing Wrong WIth Playing With The Mice...
I get a kick out of toying with them as well...especially the sanctimonious ones...it's always a delight to have the chance myself, or see someone else here surgically cut them into little monkey dunglets. We could still do that...and we'd know where to find them...keeping the most popular forums here sacred for the serious DU members. We get enough "drive bys" around here, and it's rough enough keeping the peace among ourselves. Plus it'd give the mods a break as well.

Cheers...

:hi:

45. I like the idea but
some of us here sometimes fall on hard times and cannot donate every time they want to. (I'm in that position right now.)

I don't post like I used to but I do like to check in and see how everyone is doing. I'm just afraid that some of us would be forgotten and might not be able to access.

17. I think you could still ban them and prevent them from posting
but what I'm taling about is taking a thread that's been "tombstoned" and posting it in it's own forum somewhere. No new posts would be allowed, kind of like a "read only" thing.

Call it

"Freak Show Central"

"Posting's from a Mother's Basement"

"Freeper Graveyard"

or something like that.

20. My OP was kind of "Tongue-in-Cheek"
but one benefit would be to be able to read the reasoned responses of DUer's.

Sometimes in a conversation, or argument with a wing-nut, you'll need that certain phrase, or fact, or "snappy comeback", and you just can't come up with it yourself.

I'm more interested in seeing the humerous and coherent responses that DU lays on the Freeptards than anything they have to say.

Should be able to nominate a particular response to the Hall of Shame...so we can forever capture the assorted mindless comments, bigoted, homophobic rants of the mouthbreathers who are shortlived here. The collected wisdom of those who have drunk the kool-aid long and deeply.

35. I'm sure there's an abbreviation topic somewhere
Freeptard - someone from Free Republic. As well, a moron, though I guess that goes without saying. We tend to use moran instead of moron because of a famous picture of a freeptard in which he mispells moron

Tombstone - to be banned from the site. There is a picture of a tombsone that says, "Here lies a disruptor. He disrupted poorly." I'm not positive that is the exact quote.

Forum - what we have way too many of.

Hope that helped. :-)

like when someone shuts down a troll with facts which disprove their trollosity.

Maybe not though. Hmm. Message boards are my daytime TV sometimes....

28. No need to give them any more attention than they manage to scrape up for themselves.
I have no desire to visit a "Ugliest Dog Turd" museum anymore than I care to revisit the pathetic attempts by Neurotic Brownshirts to be noticed.

A troll memorial forum would only encourage more desperate attempts at disruption.

34. Here's what I do:
When you sense that someone is likely to get a tombstone soon, just put them on your buddy list.
In case you aren't around at the moment they get their granite slab, you can still keep tabs on their status by having them on your buddy list.

40. DU used to put up tombstones
back in the early days....they were sometimes funny but also dreaded because they kept the persons name up and you'd sometimes see good friends tossed....not neccessarily for being freepers but most often bad behavior.

AHHH those were the days. ( I'm still suprised I survived  )

Edited on Wed Feb-28-07 06:46 PM by w4rma
This is a museum/library/graveyard of tombstoned posts that is being advocated. That might be good idea.

Note, I would be in full agreement with a forum for the tombstoned:
Limit the forum to no pictures, no code, no signitures, enforce automatic bad-language censorship. Do all of this so that it can be run with no or very very little moderation and bandwidth use.

It's a popular idea.

49. Here's why the admins will never go for this
Having the freepers' posts linger around for people to see will inspire them to post more disruptive things. It will also inspire DUers to play with them more. This is not what the admins envision for DU.

50. Probably more unnecessary work for the poor mods, but...
...as a concept, I do like the idea. We could all use some amusement these days! And, I'm always behind the curve when it comes to trolls being uncovered and thrown out, so a Graveyard forum would give people a chance to see who was tossed, and why.
