What Comes After "Hurricane Omega"??
This year, when we ran out of storm names we started naming them after the letters in the Greek alphabet.

But exactly how does that work? Is the name "Alpha" retired now? Or is there the possibility that the NEXT time we run out of names, there might be another "Alpha". Alpha-2009 perhaps?

We're already up to the Greek letter "Gamma", so if the used Greek letter designations are retired, I can easily see that in my lifetime we would also run out of spare hurricane names.

Maybe we should just start giving our numerous hurricanes the same type of alpha-numeric designations that they use to name the planets on Stargate-SG1.

3. We're not likely to get to Omega this year.

They only retire names if they have caused a lot of damage to life and property. So, Alpha will not be retired. Katrina, Rita, and Wilma will be retired and they'll get new names that start with those letters. Here is some interesting info about hurricane names.

4. Probably Alpha Alpha.
At least, that's how they list sorority/fraternity chapters once they've gone through the alphabet once. :hi:

11. Waste of all the other, standard names if they do it that way. As an
example, Rita might be retired, but Alpha Rita isn't (with an "A" name to start, of course).

6. I think then they go to the military alphabet.
They will have to skip Alpha, but they start at Bravo. Charlie with an ie, because Charley is retired.

8. Aleph?
Perhaps Aleph-nought, for you math-geeks out there. That name could be reused for every hurricane thereafter for all eternity.
