Ask Me Anything ..... Just Got DSL, Way Out In The Country
I never thought it would happen. Next thing you know there will be city water and pavement hereabouts.

Ask me anything, I can look up the answer in a flash.

:~)

4. Sorta
Well, yes, we do have indoor plumbing. Next year we'll put in the septic system to finish it out.

9. Actually, On A Serious Note
It is not as uncommon as you might expect to find rural homes in West Virginia that have a line running to the nearest creek for disposal of waste. Out home was built sometime in the 1920's, and not very well built at that. Our water system, which comes from a deep well (many of our neighbors use springs) feeds the house but on what might be thought of as the exhaust side it is split. Waste water comming from the kitchen, shower, bathroom sinks, or one other room that has a sink all goes out over a hillside. Waste water from the toilet is fed to a septic system.

My point is that residential pollution of small waterways is not at all uncommon in this state. Worse than that is the simple fact that the wastewater from homes may in some cases actually be improving the creeks.

I live in about the middle of 100 acres and behind the house there is a creek which runs from one end of the property to the other. It lies at the bottom of a beautiful valley that I would not let the loggers or strip miners touch when they were in here last decade. There is not one living thing in that beautiful little creek. As pretty as it is there is still no moss on the rocks, no bugs in the water, and nothing that grew a fin has seen that waterway since about the end of the civil war.

So while I understand your response was in jest, as was my post, but in fact it pointed at one of West Virginia's nasty secrets.

Thom

15. I understand what you are saying.
We have some of the same problems with waste water here in PA. We're getting city sewage in our township right now. It comes down our road next year.

18. Cable??? Wishful thinking here...
A cable line is about 100 or so yards away and no sign of DSL in the future. Damn, dialup it is for a while anyway.

11. I thought you had to be 3 or less miles from a station
That might change now that they are installing fiber-optics in our area.
