So long, and thanks for all the fish!
Too bad it had to come to this!

(Saw the movie. Meh.)

2. I did, years ago.
Much better.

My husband has never read the book and still thought the movie was "meh."

16. I read the books, intermittently saw the TV series
and I liked the movie just fine. It went by remarkably quickly and I liked the Actors and I liked that it was different. I mean, this thing started out as a radio series, morphed into a TV series and a series of books and now a movie. You don't think they're all going to be the same?

3. Odd. I think I'm the only one in love with the movie.
But then again, it's taken me this long to get over the boredom from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, so maybe I was just primed to like it.

7. No I really liked it too
Thought Alan Rickman was just perfect as the voice of Marvin and the casting of Arthur Dent was spot on. The Vogons weren't like I pictured them in my head...but they still worked for me.

11. Where did you get that idea
I've been posting fan threads since I saw it. Great movie. Its biggest negative mark is the nonreading audience won't get all the subreferences. But when all is said and done I am glad it was a movie made for the reading members.

12. I thought a lot of the subreferences
weren't any more obscure than they were in the book, though I haven't read the book in 20 years, and had forgotten most of it (Except a couple of one-liners left out of the movie).

Maybe American audiences just aren't used to paying attention for the whole two hours, without a car chase or sex scene to break the monotony of concentration? Just a thought. Wonder how it's being reviewed in Britain.

Glad you liked it, too, AZ.

13. I thought the scenes with Slartibartfast and the planet 'factory'
were very well done. And I love Bill Nigby so that made it even better.

One of my favorite parts was at the end when Slartibartfast says "Cue Life" and it all unfolds before our eyes.

To me the movie was like a visit from an old friend. Lots of catching up to do, sharing some laughs and remembering why you liked each other in the first place. :)

21. I read one review comparing Zaphod to W
It claimed that the Zaphod in the movie was not at all like in the book, and seemed to be a poke at Bush, who was inept but charming. I had trouble not throwing my computer against a wall at another attempt by the media to convince me that turd is likeable!

Sorry, irrelevant rant, but I work politics into everything, even places like DU.

How did it compare? Someone told me today the TV series was much better.

6. As cheesy as the BBC version was, yeah
I thought it was better than the film.

The film just felt.....flat. I dunno.

10. Yeah the movie was worse than I thought it would be.
And I thought it would be pretty bad. Mutilated the story completely, made Zaphod come off like a complete idiot, took all the bite out of Marvin and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Good thing I downloaded it, at least I didn't waste my money.

17. Yes.
That's Ian as Al Swearengen from the HBO show "Deadwood". One of the greatest performances in television history. I strongly suggest, if you're a fan of his, that you rent the first season of this show and watch.

I didn't even notice Kingsley. McShane was the best performance in that film.
