Cinema Owners Seek to Curb Phone Rage
Edited on Sun May-01-05 07:57 AM by onehandle
WELLINGTON, New Zealand - New Zealand cinema owners may use mobile phone jamming technology to stop mid-movie calls, text messaging — and cell phone rage among patrons, they said Friday.

The national Motion Pictures Exhibitors Association said it's studying the legality of using mobile phone jammers because of the disruption from the phones during movie screenings.

The worst offenders he saw were middle aged women who answered their phones in cinemas and continued conversations, getting aggravated if asked to turn their cell phones off or leave, he said.

Mackenzie said "cell phone rage" between patrons sometimes turned nasty.

1. Cell phone users should be treated like smokers
If you're going to do it, GO OUTSIDE!

5. It happened to me.
It was a woman in her twenties. The house was about half full. This lady was about five rows back of me and to the left. Her phone went off and she answered it. She started carrying on a conversation as if she was in her living room. Several people asked her to cut it out but she did not respond. I got up and went over to her and said please shut off the phone or leave. She said, "I'm on the phone" irritably and continued to carry on her conversation ignoring me.

I had to get a manager to make her leave.

4. I read an article somewhere about cell phone jammers
They are illegal here in the US (thanks to cozy deals between congress and telecom lobbies) but widely used in spite of it. Manufactured abroad, their biggest customers are from the US (hotels, who want visitors to use expensive in-room phone service, are a huge customer). Easy to use and configure, hard to detect when being used, it is a classic example of nod-and-wink politics that bar law abiding citizens from obtaining and using but allow big-wig corporations (beyond reproach) to use without fear, while lobbyists and congressmen get fatter and fatter.

Tut-tut

cell phone jammers? I would love to wear one and eliminate all the very personal and private conversations that I am now unable to avoid overhearing as I make my way through todays world.
