(03-10) 12:44 PST Tallahassee, Fla. (AP) --

Thirty-four years after his death, the state of Florida has found and restored what it believes to be the earliest film of Jim Morrison, shot in the early 1960s when he was a student at Florida State University.

In the FSU promotional film, Morrison plays a clean-cut prospective student who is denied enrollment at the school.

"We would like to accept you," Morrison's character is told. "Indeed, we'd like to offer more courses, more sections, but we just don't have the space — that together with the lack of professors."

"But what happened?" he asks. "How come my parents, and the state and the university didn't look ahead?"

Morrison, who became lead singer of The Doors, attended FSU before enrolling in UCLA's film school. He died in Paris in 1971 at age 27.

1. Cool!
One of the best Irish poets of recent times. Wish he had stuck around for a while.

5. Thanks caligirl
That was a treat.

I'm a big fan of Jim's work. Wasn't he of Scottish background? Just wondering? Listen to his recitation of his work on American Prayer, and it reveals more about the poet's voice in his work. One gets a truer essence of the poems.

6. I once drove
Edited on Thu Mar-10-05 05:58 PM by Babel_17
sixty miles to get to the NYC public library which at the time had one of the very few limited editions of "The Lords and the New Creatures".

Was worth it.

Hehehe, having, I hope, established my fan bone fides let me paste here the hopefully amusing aside I just posted in another forum. I realize the smilies in use over there won't work here. The ones I used to replace the "F" word were "Immoral and Wrong" and "Report to Mod!". Sort of an inside joke at that forum.

With respect and in fond memory of The Lizard King.

"How come my parents, and the state and the university didn't look ahead?"

<cut to "Absolutely Live" footage>

"So he took a face from the ancient gallery and he walked on down the hall ......

Father, 'yes son', I want to kill you.

Mother, I want to ................................ :i&w: :i&w: :rtm: :rtm: you!"

This has been a public service announcement from Florida State University. Don't disappoint your kids.
