Poll question: Peter Gabriel Vs. David Byrne
I just scooped up a copy of Up thinking - Gabriel has to have run out of genius juice by now but, fuck no, the man is unstppable! Had I 1/10 the genius juice I could melt metal with my mind.

The other day I was listening to Byrne's self-titled solo album and, lord have mercy, do I love his solo stuff.

Both of these 2 were in amazing bands that were driven largely by their creative force - then they went on to create solo masterpieces and start world music labels - Gabriel started Real World Music (http://realworld.on.net) and Byrne started Luaka Bop (http://www.luakabop.com).

So, who wins?

2. Not fair
They're both great, but in different ways.
I went with Byrne because I saw him concert recently.

4. Saw him in chicago
with the strings (Tocca sp.?) Fantastic...world class! (we got the last 2 tickets for sale!)

Have seen Gabriel when he was in full stage production with tony levin and in his later less theatrical performances can't compare the two both are world class!

3. Wish you would have had the 'other' category for those of us who can't
chose which one is better. I love them both. They both get a lot of airtime in this house.

Equally genius.

And toss Brian Eno and Frank Zappa on there while you're at it.

11. When one gets into talent that great, and that different,
the idea of "the best one" becomes pretty moot, as well as impossible.

10. Wow! What A Hard Choice!
I just picked David Byrne because i went with alphabetical order. I really don't believe that he's superior to Peter Gabriel, nor is he inferior. Just different.

They're both at or near the top of my Respected Musicians list.

13. have to pick Byrne
because I just like him better. I really admire Peter Gabriel, but I really don't like his music as much. Too intense sometimes for me. My Husb. is the big Gabriel fan here. Although they both are really good in terms of encouraging artists from other nations and the Womad was wonderful.

16. Byrne -- just a personal preference...
If I had to choose Genesis or Talking Heads, it's Heads without even thinking.
