38. That's beautiful. We were smushed in there like sardines
But it was beautiful. The weather was, fortunately, overcast and cooler than the day before.

It was the most awesome thing that I have ever been involved in outside of having my kids and getting married.

See me? I'm to the right of the stage. ;)

10. That is at least 1/2 million people. I used to help toss down the world's
largest Halloween Parade and we usually had about a half million; this crowd exceeds a half million by a long shot.

that drive/walkway/whatever leading to the open area and looks like not many people in the grassy area on the left.

Still...that's a lot of people and it doesn't show others who were marching down the streets of D.C.

32. Congrats, guys
This has just made my day. I'm sitting here in Australia with an ear to ear grin that is shared by all my friends here. Congratulations, guys. I just hope that this is enough to start those slacker politicians taking the peace movement seriously.

Your Democrat politicians have been pussy footing around just like our Labor Party ones do, afraid of upsetting the right wing voters, who are never going to vote for them anyway, by presenting a real, tough, principled opposition.

Some more of this, guys, and your representatives will realise that they have no choice but to represent you properly.

The wealthy lobbyist only have power over politicians for as long as money is a big issue in the contest. When you find ways to pull people together that don't need the freeper media and money, you have a chance to win back America for Americans.

37. Our best chance of getting our country back is to count all the votes!
The 2004 election was "tabulated" by two far rightwing Bush donor corporations, Diebold and ES&S, using SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code! All indicators except that SECRET "tabulation" point to a Bush loss, including both the national and state exit polls on election day (which the war profiteering corporate news monopolies DOCTORED to "fit" the "official result" derived by Diebold's and ES&S's SECRET formulae).

58% of the American people opposed the Iraq war BEFORE the invasion. Across the board in all polls. 58%! That number dipped only once, during the few weeks of the invasion when U.S. troops were at max risk, then went right back up to nearly 60% where it stayed throughout the election. It's over 70% today. Issue polls over the last year show that the great majority of Americans oppose every major Bush policy, foreign and domestic, way up in the 60% to 70% range. You name it. The Iraq war. Torture policy. Social Security. The deficit. Women's rights. Huge majorities against Bush. (And these polls are always weighted to the right, so the numbers against Bush policy--as against Bush himself, which show 60% to 65% disapproval--are probably even higher.)

We need...

1. Paper ballots hand-counted at the precinct level (--Canada does it in one day, although speed should not even be a consideration, just accuracy and verifiability)

or, at the least...

2. Paper ballot (not "paper trail") backup of all electronic voting, a 10% automatic recount, very strict security, and NO SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code! (...jeez!).

----------

Throw Diebold and ES&S election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor' NOW!

36. The million man march
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 08:45 AM by PATRICK
developed a density estimate technique sort of like grouping the pixels. They said their crowd had 800,000. And judging by photos of other DC demonstrations(MLK's march on Washington) the crowd is definitely in hundreds of thousands not tens of thousands. Of course quibbling about two or three hundred thousand can not push them on that spiteful devaluation. Someone care to try a scientific estimate based on this overhead view?

But in any case these peace marches, not those against Vietnam or other causes, are constantly under-valuated. A cross comparison of news reports and estimates and "official" estimates and photos(of PAST demonstrations) is a worthwhile project. I don't think it is a minor issue, but we have left it at that and the devaluation continues into the suppression of impact..
