"This is a national disgrace,”, head of New Orleans’ emergency operations
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 04:23 PM by RedEarth
“This is a national disgrace,” said Terry Ebbert, head of New Orleans’ emergency operations. “FEMA has been here three days, yet there is no command and control,” Ebbert said. “We can send massive amounts of aid to tsunami victims but we can’t bail out the city of New Orleans."

"We have got a mayor who has been pushing and asking but we’re not getting supplies,” he said. He said the evacuation was almost entirely a Louisiana operation. “This is not a FEMA operation. I haven’t seen a single FEMA guy.”

15. Wasn't Homeland Security supposed to be making
plans to evacuate cities in case of a terrorist attack? I would think they would have planned for the possibility of a terrorist possibly blowing up one of the levies and flooding NO. They knew this storm was coming several days in advance and NO is in total disarray.

17. It is a disgrace.
If this was happening in anywhere else in the world, western governments would be falling over themselves to condemn it as an act of genocide. I'm not going to apologise for using such language because that's what it is, genocide through wilfull incompetence.

I've though long and hard about this subject and I've concluded that although I'm against the death penalty in general, capital punishment of war criminals is acceptable. The crimes of the Bush administration is very long and range from the incompentance that allowed the events of 9/11 to occur to the duplicity that led to invasion and occupation of Iraq; but this abandonment of the American people that we are witnessing today is his greatest crime I believe. Bush should be hung by his neck for this betrayal.

And may God have mercy on my soul for thinking such thoughts.

18. experiment to see effect of martial law in US explain re: tardinessof help
"It was suggested to me by someone that it seems like the lack of assistance in New Orleans was meant to provoke people to extreme violence and chaos. It certainly looks that way to me... but what if new orleans is being used as a test case to see, in a real world setting, how easily a motivated, angry populace (and the military personnel forced to do the dirty work) could be subdued and controlled to create a working model of how to impose endless Martial Law throughout the country while keeping those who might resist under the lid... and those in the armed forces in line. It's a thought... because I find it absolutely incredible how inept the response has been... to the point of criminality on the part of the federal government." --c., CLG reader.

22. That is saying something very powerful!
Here we have the director of the New Orleans emergency operations, a critical figure in this mess, saying that he hasn't seen on single FEMA guy.

WHERE THE HELL ARE THEY?!!?!? THERE IS NO DAMN EXCUSE FOR THIS!

23. This is deliberate
They put a former estate lawyer in charge of FEMA and crippled the agency. They didn't reinforce the levee on Sunday when they knew it was about to break.

They WANT to let New Orleans be destroyed. They're not going to get away with blaming it on Katrina. Anyone who didn't die Monday wasn't killed by Katrina - they were killed by Bush and FEMA's foot-dragging.

25. I am stunned by the photos of people doing all they can
to survive. Pushing others on inflatable mattresses, trying to get out. Unfortunately, the people on TV tonight look so much more desperate and weak than they looked this morning.

What are we? A third world nation. We had ships giving aid to the tsunami victims within 4 or 5 days and we cannot help our OWN people??? God, this is heartbreaking!! My view of this nation is completely changed in the last 3 days. We either cannot or do not want to take care of our own citizens.

The ultimate expression of the Republicans' survival of the fittest philosophy.

29. This has been a test of America's readiness to respond to a terror attack
Mother Nature provided the test. Even gave us fair warning. And the Bush administration still managed to earn a big, huge "F."

The head of FEMA is a political hack of the worst kind, and it shows. Whole DAYS go by, and there are still people grouped together at 'relief' centers with no food or water? Unforgivable. Absolutely unforgivable.
