Bus canceled; local residents will drive to Crawford for rally
From staff and AP reports

A caravan of a few vehicles, rather than a chartered bus, will take Brown County residents to a pro-Bush rally in Crawford on Saturday, Brown County Veterans Services Officer Billy Murphey said.

Murphey said Thursday that he had decided to cancel the bus because there weren't enough riders to help defray the $1,300 charter fee. Riders would have been asked to donate $25 each toward the cost.

Murphey, who is helping organize the trip, had made tentative plans to charter the 55-seat bus, but said Wednesday that only seven riders had signed up. <more>

This is too precious to pass up
Where is Bush's mandate?

Hold on. . .I have Jeff Gannon on the line. . .he heard about Bush having a mandate and he doesn't like Bunny Pants cheating on him.

Seriously. . .The news is finally making me smile weakly again. Maybe the MSM will develop the nutsack to go after this administration!!!

This is a step in the right direction though! Seven people! They can't even field a baseball team!!!

People don't want Mr. Bush's war anymore. And so even those who showed up in the beginning are now leaving.

144. Yeah, at a place they're calling "Camp Reality"........
the bush administration has been so far removed from the reality of this war from the very start it would be laughable if so many people weren't dying.
"Camp Alternative Reality" would be spot on. :eyes: All these people can see is red, white and blue, not the monumental fuckups bush has been committing from day one.
They'll start more trouble in Crawford, you can take that to the bank. That's what they're going for, confrontation.

They can't stand any kind of public transportation. They'd rather all go in their own pick-up trucks, even if it's:

A. More expensive
B. Less convenient, or
C. Makes no sense.

I don't think this has anything to do with the number that will show up. It only means they didn't want to take the bus.

152. John Steinbeck's Joad family
I guess it ain't right at all to compare the depression and desperation of the dust bowl victims with the freepers, but the image is some how connected in my mind; they are doing what they have to do, despite being motivated for completely antithetical reasons. Fear is a very strong motivator. Grasping for a better life or clinging to an invalid past, who's to judge? Good vs evil? Boy, Steinbeck sure could have spun an epic story on this Crawford event with noir elements of East of Eden woven in.

Tom Joad got out of the old McAlester Pen;
There he got his parole.
After four long years on a man killing charge,
Tom Joad come a-walkin' down the road, poor boy,
Tom Joad come a-walkin' down the road.

Tom Joad, he met a truck driving man;
There he caught him a ride.
He said, "I just got loose from McAlester Pen
On a charge called homicide,
A charge called homicide."

That truck rolled away in a cloud of dust;
Tommy turned his face toward home.
He met Preacher Casey, and they had a little drink,
But they found that his family they was gone,
He found that his family they was gone.

He found his mother's old fashion shoe,
Found his daddy's hat.
And he found little Muley and Muley said,
"They've been tractored out by the cats,
They've been tractored out by the cats."

Tom Joad walked down to the neighbor's farm,
Found his family.
They took Preacher Casey and loaded in a car,
And his mother said, "We've got to get away."
His mother said, "We've got to get away."

Now, the twelve of the Joads made a mighty heavy load;
But Grandpa Joad did cry.
He picked up a handful of land in his hand,
Said: "I'm stayin' with the farm till I die.
Yes, I'm stayin' with the farm till I die."

They fed him short ribs and coffee and soothing syrup;
And Grandpa Joad did die.
They buried Grandpa Joad by the side of the road,
Grandma on the California side,
They buried Grandma on the California side.

They stood on a mountain and they looked to the west,
And it looked like the promised land.
That bright green valley with a river running through,
There was work for every single hand, they thought,
There was work for every single hand.

The Joads rolled away to the jungle camp,
There they cooked a stew.
And the hungry little kids of the jungle camp
Said: "We'd like to have some, too."
Said: "We'd like to have some, too."

Now a deputy sheriff fired loose at a man,
Shot a woman in the back.
Before he could take his aim again,
Preacher Casey dropped him in his track, poor boy,
Preacher Casey dropped him in his track.

They handcuffed Casey and they took him in jail;
And then he got away.
And he met Tom Joad on the old river bridge,
And these few words he did say, poor boy,
These few words he did say.

"I preached for the Lord a mighty long time,
Preached about the rich and the poor.
Us workin' folkses, all get together,
'Cause we ain't got a chance anymore.
We ain't got a chance anymore."

Now, the deputies come, and Tom and Casey run
To the bridge where the water run down.
But the vigilante thugs hit Casey with a club,
They laid Preacher Casey on the ground, poor Casey,
They laid Preacher Casey on the ground.

Tom Joad, he grabbed that deputy's club,
Hit him over the head.
Tom Joad took flight in the dark rainy night,
And a deputy and a preacher lying dead, two men,
A deputy and a preacher lying dead.

Tom run back where his mother was asleep;
He woke her up out of bed.
An' he kissed goodbye to the mother that he loved,
Said what Preacher Casey said, Tom Joad,
He said what Preacher Casey said.

"Ever'body might be just one big soul,
Well it looks that a-way to me.
Everywhere that you look, in the day or night,
That's where I'm a-gonna be, Ma,
That's where I'm a-gonna be.

Wherever little children are hungry and cry,
Wherever people ain't free.
Wherever men are fightin' for their rights,
That's where I'm a-gonna be, Ma.
That's where I'm a-gonna be."

Woody Guthrie

I mean, I would assume they are very concerned about veterans' affairs and all that , but their official should position be neutral, no? Or is this just a Texas thing?

Sounds like this Billy Murphey has an agenda that may not include all the veterans and citizens of Brown county.

I like that this article told the truth about Cindy and the others meeting with pretzel boy before the faulty intelligence was known unlike most of the media and their "Cindy is flip-flopping" bullshit.

So, can the canceling of pouty-face Melanie Morgan's grand tour not be far behind? Let's hope.

When I hear them talk about the "supporters" they always over play bush's and underplay Camp Casey crowd. And I never see fox news, I guess their "fair and balanced" dogma is far and wide, barring Stewart and Obermann.

140. Fox News
Won't even mention this. Ann Coulter on Fox Thursday night was gleefully noting that "Cindy's supporters only number 50" (lie), so what can Fox possibly say about a group of 7?
It looks like they have plenty of port-a-potties, at least one per person.

143. On some station I heard
(or read?) Cindy's supporters had "dwindled to a few dozens" when Casey's painting was unveiled, rather then the hundreds before.

They weren't here so I couldn't slap them. I imagine there are fewer there during the week then on weekends, work happens. I don't know how many were there at that moment but "her supporters" are an ever growing number.
We support her in her grief but even more...we support the call for truth. Wish more media had that desire.

Cindy went to Crawford for a genuine reason -to hold Bush accountable, because nobody else is. The right hates that she timed her little war a lot better than Bush did and positioned herself for maximum impact. Her vigil has gotten well-deserved attention because it came from a real and honest place in her heart, not some selfish, political stunt like what the right's trying to throw together. Even with every right-wing nutbag on radio and TV blasting her the so-called "conservative majority" still has yet to come to bush's rescue in any significant numbers. Texas is bush's home state and has 25 million residents, yet a measly thousand or so is all that's come to defend his honor (not that he has any)? And now the coward from Crawford is starting to feel under siege. Boo-fucking-Hoo! Cindy is more than an icon, she's the conscience of the country.
