"You can't say that our troops are dying for nothing!!!"
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 11:45 AM by GreenPartyVoter
"But to say that the war was wrong, concocted for oil or whatever, means that the soldiers are putting blood sweat and tears into establishing a freely elected
Iraqi goverment are doing it for nothing.
It says the men and woman on both sides died for nothing.

Marines fight and die with valor.
But Mom says she should have kept her son out of the military?
That he died for a conspiracy? a conspiracy to get Iraqs oil and/or to get revenge for
an attempt on Senior BUsh?
This not only destroys morale but tells the troops they might not be there until the end. That even as we are winning the war, we steal defeat when we have victory in our sights. Not because we can't win, but because the propaganda machine at home is working hard at undermining their efforts.
The daily reports of one to four soldiers dying and the violence of Iraq. Focus on the negative and no military can win a war.

The press trys to pour the blame on the President, trying to defeat him with this war. But what they are really doing is showing the people in Iraq the HOme fires aren't burning. And our support only lasts until we get a bloody lip, then we pull our troops home. Shows our troops that although they can complete the mission, the public oppinion won't let it happen.

If we had news coverage like we have today, we would be speaking German or Japanese. No battles could be won. Thousands died daily in WWII. (including both sides as they do in Iraq.)
Normandy would have ended American involvement in the war. Hundreds of thousands killed in one battle? Millions of dollars of equipment destroyed or sunk.
Some Americans forget what war is. Iraq and the mIddle East forget what peace is.
Supporting the troops, is supporting the war. And Supporting the war is supporting the troops.

Once troops are sent in they are one in the same."

1. So I said
>>>>> You are correct.
But to say that the war was wrong, concocted for oil or whatever, means that the soldiers are putting blood sweat and tears into establishing a freely elected
Iraqi goverment are doing it for nothing.
It says the men and woman on both sides died for nothing.

That is the point, yes.

What good are elections when the US throws money into them to make sure the right people are elected? What good are they if the winners get hauled out of office at gunpoint, as recently happened to the Mayor of Baghdad? WHat good is it to go into a humanitarian mission with depleted uranium that poisons the land and its people? What good is it to say you are on a humanitarian mission but then resort to torture and sadism to "win"?

People can keep talking about all the good we are doing there, but it always comes back to one thing: WHY did we go in there in the first place? American Security was the original reason given, and the inspectors on the ground were in the process of proving that it wsan't a valid reason to go to war. But Bush threw them out of Iraq and had his war anyway.

If Bush wanted to go after Saddam purely for humanitarian reasons he should have made his case on that to the American people and let them decide if they should or should not do that. Instead, he gave us bunk about mushroom cloud smoking guns and whipped the American people into a fear frenzy until many were begging for a war in Iraq.

13. That even as we are winning the war? why can you not provide a link that
supports your claim they we are in fact winning the war.

I read that because of increased suicide bombings compared to a year ago the US. military are losing ground for the simple fact that there aren't enough soldiers there, and the more soldiers that are there only increase the amount killed daily.

Show us the link: "we're winning the war in Iraq" -pleeze!

2. Wow, that person makes a great little fascist.
"Support the Dear Leader no matter what!"

Fascism: A philosophy or system of government that is marked by stringent social and economic control, a strong, centralized government usually headed by a dictator, and often a policy of belligerent nationalism.

3. And yet he thinks he is doing it out of love for the troops. Doesn't want
to hurt their feelings, y'see.

6. The TROOPS already know
The writer fails to realize that. What they do want is to know that the people at home are supporting THEM no matter what. And respect the fact that they are doing the job they are forced to do, no matter what.

They also know that NOTHING can be done to "help" them, unless the American people DISCUSS REALITY.

8. Nothing sadder than misguided affection, eh?
Someone who really loves the troops would want them out of this absolutely horribly misguided fiasco in Iraq.

4. I never said they were dying for nothing. I said they're "dying for LIES"
It's not the same thing. In fact it's much worse than dying for nothing.

5. i can say whatever i like
as far as i'm concerned, it's quite clear the troops aren't dying for nothing, they are dying to provide a price support to the oil& gas and war profiteering industries

any change of gov't in iraq will clearly be for the worse, from a secular gov't to a religious dictatorship where women, gays, & anyone who likes a drop to drink will suffer horrendous oppression & death

if that's yr idea of democracy, well, you can have it

we wouldn't tolerate life under such a religious hierarchy, yet we impose it on others

7. Geez, two lies don't make a truth. The WORLD now knows
without a shadow of a doubt that the whole illegal war was predicated on lies. The world knows that we have already LOST this war. Yet, we're to continue lying about the reasons we went in and lying about the situation on the ground.

Typical RW *Thelma & Louise* defense - hold hands and smile as you drive off the cliff.

Maybe when the author is done dissecting Iraq they can go back and write a spiffy article justifying the genocide we visited on the American Indians. Hell, we'd all be speaking Cherokee!!

Yes, they all died for nothing. Worse, they all died for a lie.

10. Yes, I can...
and they ARE.

Marines fight and die for OCCUPATION and INJUSTICE. A worthless and impossible war destroys morale more than me stating the truth. Their efforts are already undermined, and the propaganda machine at home which blinds the people to what is really going on can't change that, and neither can pathetic fools like you. The media is focusing on missing girls, Michael Jackson and other shallow stories to keep people ignorant, and it seems that the little reporting of the reality makes you offended...why?

The President deserves all that criticism and more. He has MURDERED 100,000 innocents, 80,000 Iraqis in the military and more. There is no excuse for such base actions. His apathy and incompetence has caused tremendous unnecessary pain for so many.

1,800+ is a bloody lip?

If we had news coverage like we have today during WWII, it would be the same. However, that was a justified war, that was a winnable war. This is neither. We are playing Japan's role in WWII, and if their citizens were so loud and critical as some of ours are today, WWII would have ended sooner, and the clearly unjustified side would have ended their campaign of oppression (much like ours today).

Iraq has forgotten what peace is, since we so cruelly imposed war, death and destruction upon them for no reason whatsoever.

Once troops are sent in for a WRONG purpose, they should NOT be there. PERIOD.

I can now see why Germans could allow their government to invade Poland for no reason, to trample and devour innocents and make a mockery of human rights; because of what you have said here.

11. Manic Expression is dead on.
The Germans believed they were at war to "liberate" the oppressed peoples of Poland, England, etc., and to defend themselves against "madmen" who "threatened" them.

Sound familiar?

12. You can say that the troops are dying for the PNAC-neocon agenda, though.
They sure are not dying to defend this nation. And that is my firm belief!
