Hanging over the electric/phone lines in my neighborhood- Bush Lied.
I just drove down the street in my neighborhood and at two intersections were "Bush Lied" signs hanging over the wires. It will take the city weeks, perhaps months, to get these down. What a great idea - no Bush lover can take them down unless they have a bucket truck and are willing to risk their lives.

19. Found them! Pics here:
This one has a well-chosen location;
the intersection has a TRAFFIC CIRCLE,
so all traffic is slowing down right there,
no matter the direction of travel.

But THIS ONE really shows the GENIUS of this design!
It is not touching the lower wire in the photo.
It is hanging free, and the slightest breeze makes it SPIN
like crazy!(same text on both sides)
Real attention-grabber; no way you can miss it!

And they aren't paper;
They look like thin plastic (formica?), so they should last awhile.
As the OP said, Durham DPS isn't gonna be rushing out to
take them down anytime soon!

I say: Viva the Old West Durham Wire-Blogger!

30. The top image is phone lines. I can't tell but the other looks
like power lines. Usually it is tennis shoes thrown over the lines.

38. DIck - thank you for posting. I don't have a camera and no one
at the BBQ had one. Wish I could find out who thought of this, I would buy them a beer at the Green Room, Joe and Jo's or the James Joyce. Thanks again. I will go check to see if the one at the Cantina is still there. Think I will call the Independent tomorrow and tell them about these if they don't already know. Their office is in this neighborhood.

5. maybe...
a rope thrown over, and the sign hauled up with it. Wouldn't be too difficult.

I hope we find the culprit so we can give them proper adoration and :applause:

8. You just put a weight on one end - in this case the sign -
put about 20 or 30 feet of string or light rope attached to it and add a fishing weight or something to the second end. Throw over the sign end first and when you have it where you want it throw the second end up over the wires - the weight will make it go around and around the wires thus making it stay in place and hard to get down.

I assume that someone thought of this because we have had articles in the paper recently about gangs using tennis shoes thrown over the wires to mark their territories.

Bush lovers can't reach them easily - way to high up.

Edit - Also, this is a highly Democratic town.

35. Update for monday: Found a 3rd one! (Iredell & Perry, near Cosmic Cantina)
Sadly, it hangs low enough to reach with a rake or broom,
so it probably won't be there long....

How many more are out there?
This is fun; it's like an Easter-egg hunt
across the whole city!
