US Using Helicopters, Airforce planes against Fallujah- Al Jazeera
I don't have perfect Arabic ability, but the report I saw (exclusive to Al Jazeera) showed the results and footage of helicopter and jet bomb/missile attacks on Fallujah.

This isn't a police action, we are entering with heavy force.

I didn't post this in LBN, because I cannot fully translate.

As you would probably guess Al Jazeera is part of our cable package.

:(

4. Is this new?
Yesterday morning there were reports of fighting on an outskirt just after the invaders and a couple detachments of collaborators "sealed off" the city. The occupation forces took casualties, so they bombed a neighborhood in response; 7 people were killed and 10 houses destroyed.

Is this a report on that, or a new event??

14. thanks, we have been here since August
economic refugees from the Bush stagnation.

The economy is almost unimaginable compared to the US right now... and the UAE will probably report growth of around 3-4% for the year.

Don't believe those U.S. numbers.

9. We have people committing atrocities in this country everyday.
I am unaware of our dropping 500 lb bombs on them and their neighbors. Why is the reaction to the killing of contractors/private military so different from the killing of U.S. military personnel? Are their lives somehow more valuable?

12. Precisely, and the media (on MSNBC earlier)
referred to them once again as contractors...

No, they were mercenaries doing who knows what in Fallujah...

I guarantee they weren't handing out stuffed animals and chocolate to children.

It was the brutality their corpses were treated with.

21. And I'd like to remind everyone that we were warned of just that thing.
Pre-invasion the Iraqis said that they would cut off the heads and burn the bodies of our soldiers.

Everytime I hear about something horrible happening over there I think 2 things 1) We have murdering rapists who dismember and eat the bodies of their victims in THIS country and 2) We told you so.

23. Our up close and personal "shock and awe".
Obviously, the Iraqi's cannot take on the US military straight up. I think DS1 showed what happens when a 3rd world army goes up against US military technology. So what's left for them to use to carry the fight to the US? The use of media technology to reflect back their hatred of the occupation forces.

I think we've become way too desensitized to the horror of war....we seem to like our "shock and awe" when we can view it on TV from a 3 mile vantage, preferably at night so we can see the bombs light up the sky. Our broadcast media had no problems choreographying the opening scenes of the war.....wonder why they now seem to have lost interest in the up close and personal aspects of the resultant horror?

24. Exactly - we should have webcams on the roofs of Fallujah
.
.
.

Then we can watch the American "Liberators" in action.

But in the famous words of Jack Nicholson

To the American war supporters

"You can't handle the truth"

But we will see next to nothing . .

Until it's much too late . .

. (sigh) .

19. those "american civilians" were an armed security detail..
Not Susie and Bob out on vacation. If an armed security detail from an occupying country were driving around my war ravaged neighborhood, I would expect the same thing to happen.

What's going down in Fallujah is a collective punishment. The Nazis did the same thing.

22. Why are they bombing Fallujah - al-Sadr isn't even THERE!
.
.
.

Wasn't that their "justification" ?

al-Sadr is160 miles SOUTH of Baghdad (Fallujah is to the West)

From a non-american news source (doh)

By Jeffrey Gettleman
Kufa, Iraq

April 7, 2004

The Grand Mosque of Kufa has now become the grand arsenal.

As US authorities issued an arrest warrant for Muqtada al-Sadr, the radical Shiite cleric who set off the most serious insurrection so far against the occupation forces, hundreds of his supporters were busy fortifying the mosque, bracing for a US invasion.

Sheikh Sadr has barricaded himself inside the golden brick walls, refusing to surrender. Members of his militia prowl the streets, staring down the sights of machine-guns, building fighting positions in and around the mosque, the town's biggest, and pointing rocket-propelled grenades at the highway heading north - the road they expect to see US forces come rumbling down.

/snip/

Kufa, 160 kilometres south of Baghdad with a population of 110,000, is the first Iraqi city to spin entirely out of occupation control. The town is a stronghold of conservative Shiite beliefs.

And regarding Fallujah and the killings last week, they happened EXACTLY ONE YEAR after the Us fired on protesters at a school, killing 13 and wounding 75 others.

While the killings last week were atrocious and barbaric, maybe one can "understand" their anger?

Kill their kids, THEY REMEMBER!

Killing more just pours gas on the fire - -

25. here's something in English on this now..
U.S. Troops Meet Fierce Resistance In Fallujah, Kill Scores

FALLUJAH, Iraq, April 6 (IslamOnline.net & News Agencies) - Meeting fierce resistance from Iraqi fighters, U.S. occupation forces bombarded late Tuesday, April 6, the western city of Fallujah with tanks and warplanes, killing scores of Iraqi citizens.

At least ten Iraqis died when American forces shelled the Golan neighborhood, reported the Doha-based Aljazeera television.

Hospital doctors said another 15 civilians had been killed and dozens injured in the American offensive over the past 48 hours.

The U.S. army reported six Iraqis killed in fighting Monday, though residents said five of them were killed when helicopters hit a residential area.

The occupation troops took control of the industrial area on the town's southeastern outskirts after a fierce six-hour battle with Iraqi fighters.

Iraqi fighters braved the armed-to-the-teeth occupation units with rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and mortars, forcing U.S. forces to withdraw from one of their bastions around the city.
