ROBERTSON BLAMES HURRICANE ON CHOICE OF ELLEN DEGENERES TO HOST EMMYS
http://datelinehollywood.com/archives/2005/09/05/robertson-blames-hurricane-on-choice-of-ellen-deneres-to-host-emmys/

Hollywood – Pat Robertson on Sunday said that Hurricane Katrina was God’s way of expressing its anger at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for its selection of Ellen Degeneres to host this year’s Emmy Awards. “By choosing an avowed lesbian for this national event, these Hollywood elites have clearly invited God’s wrath,” Robertson said on “The 700 Club” on Sunday. “Is it any surprise that the Almighty chose to strike at Miss Degeneres’ hometown?”

Robertson also noted that the last time Degeneres hosted the Emmys, in 2001, the September 11 terrorism attacks took place shortly before the ceremony.

“This is the second time in a row that God has invoked a disaster shortly before lesbian Ellen Degeneres hosted the Emmy Awards,” Robertson explained to his approximately one million viewers. “America is waiting for her to apologize for the death and destruction that her sexual deviance has brought onto this great nation.”

Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 02:45 PM by Chimpys_Last_Stand
It's just a completely insane claim to make, what is wrong with this man?? I mean, does he really think God is mad at Hollywood for picking a lesbian to host the Emmy Awards?? Cuz that's what Pat said, God is punishing New Orleans for Hollywood's choice of.....oh, I can't even finish this sentence...this is just too stupid!!

15. Real or satire? I really can't tell.
Robertson added that other tragedies of the past several years can be linked to Degeneres’ growing national prominence. September, 2003, for example, is both the month that her talk show debuted and when insurgents first gained a foothold in Iraq following the successful March invasion. “Now we know why things took a turn for the worse,” he explained.

Is this real or is it satire? I have no way of knowing. Please respond.

16. Satire. I found this:
SEAN PENN RETURNS TO NEW ORLEANS FOR RE-SHOOTS

Actor/activist says some Katrina victims flubbed lines in original rescues

Hollywood – Sean Penn returned on a raft to the hurricane-ravaged city of New Orleans Saturday for what he called “a few simple re-shoots.” The actor and activist returned on a chartered raft along with two cameramen, a cinematographer, a screenwriter doing last minute re-writes, and several victims he rescued last week that he placed back into flood waters and re-rescued. His spokesperson said the re-shoots provided for “better camera coverage” and “more believable dialogue during the crucial moments after Sean pulled victims into his raft.”

Same website. I think it's a shame I have to waste time figuring out if something is real or satire. Pat Robertson is so absurd that this absurd article could have been real. Why do we have people like that?

I don't even know if it is good news that this is satire because Robertson will likely blame someone else, unless he's keeping a low profile after calling for Chavez's assassination. (Otherwise, this article might have been real.)

Does Pat Robertson really think God is some cosmic Cleveland Amory doing selective strikes on cities to voice His/Her/Its disapproval with the Emmys??? This guy is morphing into his own satire.

You know, these knuckle-draggers who think "God made Man in His own image" clearly are creating God out of their own image, which should scare the shit out of anyone, being as how PR backs the Mayor of Munchkinland.

Oh, wait, it IS satire -- but what's really spooky is it was plausible enough for a moment that we bought it.

I loved the last paragraph:

“God already allows one awards show to promote the homosexual agenda,” Robertson declared. “But clearly He will not tolerate such sinful behavior to spread beyond the Tonys.”

23. I went right to the site, read the
article, and assumed it was real. It was only when I checked back in that I discovered ( oh alright, was told) it was a satire. Now that is strange. Normally I would be mortified. I've taught Swift, Artistophanes, and a few other satrists to college students. I'm not, though. The guy is crazy enough that, really, this isn't beyond him at all. When it comes to Pat Robertson, you never really know. You could even say that, relative to some of the stuff that comes out of him, this is pretty normal. And we all know he could just as easily say it for real tomorrow.

32. Is this a joke?
I just have a hard time believing somebody could be this FUCKING stupid. What's REALLY sad is that every time the media has "American religious leaders" on for interviews, they always choose either (a) Pat Robertson, or (b) Jerry Falwell. Since when do they represent the religious views of a majority of Americans? They should both be locked up in Parchman Penitentiary in Mississippi and left there for life with all the little "extras" that an incarceration there includes. . .

34. About Dateline Hollywood
Dateline Hollywood was founded in 360 BC as "Gladiators Weekly" to cover the booming entertainment industry in the coliseums of ancient Rome. Its pioneering analysis of the statistics of lion mauls and emperor thumbs up/down made it the original publication to take the business of entertainment seriously. Its premiere edition included "The Ten Gladiators to Watch" and an analytic feature, "Deaths by Daggers Down LXVIII Percent."

Over the years, the publication now known as Dateline Hollywood covered a number of different amusing industries as the times changed, transforming from "Inside Slave Trade," to "Bubonic Plague Infestation Monthly" (later quarterly, yearly, and eventually publishing just once per century) to "What's Hot in Renaissance Art," "Miracle Play Today!" and, following a move to the young United States in the early 19th century, "Minstrel Show Monthly," "The Ragtime Gazette," and, following the editors' realization in 1973 that ragtime's time had passed, its current incarnation.

Today, Dateline Hollywood uses the reach, speed, and cheapness of the Internet to bring a worldwide audience the freshest news from the current capital of world culture: Hollywood, USA. Whether you're an industry professional or Hollywood outsider, you'll find everything you need to know about the world of film, TV, music, and more right here from the publication that continues to live up to its founding motto to "cover with unerring integrity that which matters least."
