Hinkle holds on as pressure mounts for him to resign
Source: Indy Star

Rep. Phillip D. Hinkle, R-Indianapolis, said he would not seek another term this morning as pressure mounted for him to quit following the revelation he met a male escort at a Downtown hotel.

"As for 2012, we, as a family, decided back in December after the 2010 election, that I would not be seeking another term," Hinkle said in a written statement.

Hinkle's announcement that he will serve out his term came as the Speaker of the Indiana House called this morning for him to step down.

"We have a lot of compassion for Phil and his family," Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis, said. "But the right thing for him to do is to step down, and he needs to do it. It is absolutely the right thing for him and his family, and it's the right thing for the institution."

1. Unless he uses homophobic rhetoric or legislates homophobic hate...
...i don't give a rats ass about his personal life. Of course, though, not many wade through the sewers of the republican party without gay bashing.

6. I agree
Chasing him out of office just gives voice to intolerance and says people who are gay don't deserve to hold public office.

How can we change the GOPs attitude towards gays if we cheer them for chasing away a member of their own party for being gay?

7. Umm, does favoring DOMA and return of DADT qualify him as a "homophobe"?
" Hinkle has been an Indiana state lawmaker since 2000, and is best known for his interest in local government issues, such as being co-author of the bill that created the "In God We Trust" license plate. he is naturally anti-marriage equality, pro-DOMA and would like to see the return of DADT."

8. He did do this...
Representative Hinkle worked on House Enrolled Act 1013, which he co-authored, that created the new "In God We Trust" license plates.

9. "We as a family" my ass. His decision was made by the "family of people who are
not buying his bullshit excuses" and that's a very big tribe, indeed!
