Missing News of the World executive Greg Miskiw to fly to UK for police talks
Source: The Telegraph (UK)

Greg Miskiw, a former news editor at the News of the World who left the UK after being alleged to have repeatedly authorised illegal voicemail hacking, is to return to Britain to face questioning by police.

Mr Miskiw, alleged to have been one of a select handful of “gatekeepers” authorised to order phone hacking, told The Daily Telegraph outside his hideaway in Florida that his solicitors had been talking to officers from the Metropolitan Police “for some time”.

“They know where I am and they know I am returning,” said Mr Miskiw. He declined to say whether he had authorised hacking, whether he had hacked the voicemail of Milly Dowler, or if Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson – former NOTW editors – knew the newspaper hacked voicemails.

Mr Miskiw - notorious for once saying of the News of the World's activities "That is what we do - we go out and destroy other people's lives" – then sped off from his apartment block in Delray Beach in his dark orange Saab convertible.

2. Who's going to "off" him? Murdock?
Will he have an "accident" before he sings his guts out?

3. 2 whistleblowers associated with this story have died suddenly
If this guy sticks to the Murdoch party line, maybe he'll be ok.

However he sounds like he's a person who can vouch for how widespread and what forms the company's surveillance took.

That would make him a liability for the corporation if he ever got chatty.

5. I hope any incriminating information he has on his superiors is squirreled away for release
in case he has a heart attack while his plane goes down.

Thanks for the thread, KeepItReal.

6. Phone hacking: former NoW news editor Greg Miskiw to return to UK (from Florida)
Source: UK Guardian

Former News of the World newsdesk executive Greg Miskiw has said he is preparing to return to the UK and that his lawyer has been talking to the British police "for some time" over his alleged role in the phone-hacking scandal.

Speaking outside his home in Florida the executive, whose name appears on a contract with former News of the World private investigator Glenn Mulcaire, identified by a pseudonym, told reporters: "I am returning to the UK voluntarily. My solicitor has been talking to the police for some time now so I have effectively been in touch with the police. They know where I am and they know I am returning. That is all I have to say."

Miskiw declined to say if he expected to be arrested or whether he authorised hacking at the newspaper, or if he had hacked the voicemail of Milly Dowler, the Surrey schoolgirl who was murdered in 2002.

He left News of the World in 2005 and had been living in Manchester, but is now based in the Delray Beach area of Florida, a leafy neighbourhood close to the beach.

Former News of the World news editor Greg Miskiw talks to the Telegraph's Jon Swaine

8:31PM BST 21 Jul 2011

Greg Miskiw (video at above link), Delray Beach, Florida

Mr Miskiw, alleged to have been one of a select handful of “gatekeepers” authorised to order phone hacking, told The Daily Telegraph outside his hideaway in Florida that his solicitors had been talking to officers from the Metropolitan Police “for some time”.

“I’m returning to the UK momentarily,” he said outside his flat in Delray Beach, Florida. “My solicitors have been talking to the police for some time now.

“They know where I am and they know I’m returning. That’s all I have to say.”
Asked if he expected to be arrested, as several of his ex-colleagues have been, Mr Miskiw, said: “I don’t know”.

.....

Mr Miskiw — notorious for once saying of the NotW’s activities: “That is what we do - we go out and destroy other people’s lives” — then sped off in his dark orange Saab convertible.

Thread from earlier this week:

"That is what we do -- we go out and destroy other people's lives." ----Greg Miskiw, NOTW, July 19, 2011

According to the Palm Beach Post on July 21, 2011:

Miskiw worked for AMI's The Globe in Boca Raton for about two months earlier this year but left several months ago, a spokesman said. In June, Miskiw incorporated a company, News Team LLC, according to the Florida secretary of state's office.

Hope the authorities will arrest him upon his arrival back in the UK. Florida has enough unindicted criminals already.

Private investigators Glenn Mulcaire and Steve Whittamore, and former senior journalists at News of the World, Greg Miskiw and Alex Marunchak, are four names to follow closely.

8. His company name is interesting, being that many of Murdoch's company names
also begin with "News" -- News Corporation, News International, News Digital Media, News America Marketing, News Outdoor Group, News Limited, etc.

Is it a mere coincidence that a former employee incorporates with a "News" name? I'd love to know who Misikiw's investors are.

9. Greg Miskiw is a flight risk, imho.
Jon Swaine reports in the UK Telegraph:

6:00PM BST 21 Jul 2011

Last month Terenia Taras, a 39-year-old freelance journalist and ex-girlfriend of Mr Miskiw, was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications. She was questioned and later released. Police said they wanted to talk to Mr Miskiw, but were not clear where he was.

Mr Miskiw has in fact been living under his real first name of Ihor in a small flat within a four-apartment building in Delray Beach, a city of 60,000 people on the east coast of Florida. His street — yards from a strip of bars and beaches — is lined with palm trees and a bright white presbyterian church towers above his home.

Mr Miskiw is believed to have been working until recently for The Globe, a tabloid magazine in nearby Boca Raton. Jeff Rodack, its editor, told The Telegraph: “All I can tell you is Mr Miskiw does not work here”. He recently incorporated his own media agency, News Team LLC, which he registered to his home.

Kendall Pfeffer, a young magazine writer who is currently Mr Miskiw’s only neighbour in the building, said as she left for work: “I knew he was a journalist. But I didn’t know anything about all this.” The flat above Mr Miskiw’s is currently available for $1,850 (£1,134) per month. The building’s estate agents declined to discuss Mr Miskiw.

.....

Greg Miskiw, allegedly, one of the 'ping'-leaders.

Looks like Ihor "Greg" Miskiw may have still been in the UK as late as December, 2010. Apparently, there is a bankruptcy petition involving one "Ihor Miskiw" involving an address very close to one that Miskiw had in Manchester.

January 19, 2011

.....Greg joined the Liverpool-based Mercury Press Agency in 2005 as news editor, but there's no sign of his name in that role on the website now. Greg wrote a piece about a Ukrainian "plague", worse apparently than swine flu, for the Sunday Express in 2009. His current whereabouts are hard to confirm, but one Ihor Miskiw, with an address very close one once held by Greg in Manchester, was named in bankruptcy petition at the end of 2010 by HM Customs and Revenue.

...Link

This would support the trail that after the end of 2010, Miskiw would have then come to Florida, worked "a couple of months" at the Globe in Boca Raton (~January-February-?March), then left "a couple of months ago" (~April-May). In June, he incorporated News Team LLC in the state of Florida.
(from the Palm Beach Post above)

It would seem that he would be a classic risk for flight from UK authorities.

He absolutely must be arrested for questioning.

10. They should put him in jail to keep him from running.
People like this have a propensity for hiding with long-lost cousins in back alleys.

12. Miskiw is quoted twice that he's retuning to the UK
The first time "voluntarily" and the second time "momentarily." Did he say it twice with a little difference, is one of the accounts a misquote, and if one of them is a misquote, did Miskiw really say/mean voluntarily or momentarily? There are a lot of difference implications here. I wonder if Mr. Miskiw will ever actually make it back to Old Blighty?
