CNN drops Eliot Spitzer TV talk show
Edited on Wed Jul-06-11 01:28 PM by onehandle
Source: Reuters

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - CNN has canceled its television talk show hosted by former New York governor Eliot Spitzer, despite a major revamp less than six months ago.

Announcing its fall TV schedule on Wednesday, CNN said that Anderson Cooper's nightly news program AC360 will air in the slot now occupied by Spitzer's "In the Arena".

Spitzer, who debuted his new show on CNN in October 2010 with Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker, was not mentioned in the line-up. Parker left the show in February after disappointing ratings, and the show was revamped with Spitzer continuing as the main contributor.

"The new line-up showcases anchors who are experienced reporters in covering stories that span the globe," said Ken Jautz, CNN's executive vice president. Piers Morgan, Wolf Blitzer, and John King remain on the schedule and will be joined by a new general news program with Erin Burnett.

18. He tried to do "Hard News" during the uprising in Egypt
he is better off sticking celebrity gossip

But for a lot of folks on the West Coast getting home at 6 -6:30 pm there is not much selection of News at 7 pm

3. Sorry to see the change. Guess it was a ratings issue, but Spitzer led a good show, imo.
Intelligent guy and the show was interesting, informed and informative. If I had my druthers, would rather see John King go.

20. I can't stand John King.
Spitzer & Zakaria are the only ones I'll tune into & even that doesn't happen often.

I'm sure they'll find a right winger to take his spot. Can't have anyone slightly left of center when you are vying for Fox viewers.

13. Exactly... there he is boys. Go get him.
I'm glad Spitzer had the stones to go back to a public life. I know he did what he did but he became a target because he was on to the banksters.

32. Elliot Sptizer fired
I can't believe they actually hired him, figured MSNBC would hire him since he was on Ratigan's show quite a few times.

17. +1. A true coarsening of the debate on all sides. And people wonder
why nothing gets done? It's because politicians now have to answer to media blowhards and crazed bloggers.

19. I liked his show a lot, but ....
I quit watching when they "revamped" it by adding 2 rightwing nutjobs. Why couldn't Spitzer be allowed to handle the show on his own? There were many nights when I felt that he was my only voice on the TV. But by pairing him with rightwing nutjobs, neither of which did more than regurgitate things right out of the Standard Rightwing Nutjob Manual, his show lost its substance. Maybe MSNBC will pick him up?

I didn't watch when Kathleen Parker was on but when they got rid of her I watched very often.
