Iraq/Breaking--heavy fighting in Ramadi now, as well
On the Euphrates west of al-Fallujah. Hundreds of fighters attacking the occupation base, supposedly members of Sayyid Muqtada al-Sadr's Jaysh al-Mahdi. Silly boy:--he needs to be informed that this is the "Sunni Triangle".

US forces are taking casualties, but military/occupation authorities are not releasing any information.

In the nearby city of Ramadi, another hotbed of guerrilla activity 24 miles west of Fallujah, U.S. troops and insurgents clashed on a downtown street. One Iraqi was killed and three wounded, doctors said.

http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/0407/p01s02-wome.html

Marines have cordoned off Fallujah, where the murder and mutilation of four US security contractors shocked the world last week, and information coming out is scant and unreliable. The marines have made the policy decision not to provide details on the location and nature of attacks. Residents reported the boom of shells and the crack of rifles through much of Sunday night. The Associated Press also reported the Sunni Triangle fighting appears to have spread to Ramadi, near Fallujah, where at least one Iraqi was killed Tuesday.

‘Solidarity’

Shiites’ spiritual leader Sistani, in the meantime, voiced his solidarity with Sadr, Aljazeera satellite channel quoted a close aide to the veteran Shiite leader as saying.

Sistani said “the demonstrators' demands are legitimate” and “condemns acts waged by the occupation forces and pledges his support to the families of the victims”, he said.

14. The revolt according to al-Jazeera

"The uprising will continue and we will not negotiate unless they fulfil our demands, which are a withdrawal from populated areas and the release of prisoners," al-Sadr aide Qays al-Ghazali said on Tuesday.

"I direct my words to the great evil, Bush, and I ask who is against democracy? Is it the one who is advocating peaceful resistance or the one who is bombing the nation and shedding blood?" he said.

and I know over 18,000 people are being held with no charges, and I know my stepson does not want to be there and hates Bush with a passion and is caught up in the lies perpetrated by this admin, and was told he would go to jail for his views, and was afraid, and went, and was harassed by his commaning officer for MY anti war activities, and was also harassed by some of his fellow unit members for his stance on the war as "Bullshit".
Just bring them home, and let the Iraqis have their country.

49. NBC News says at least 12 killed...
20 injured.

Fox News had the best information that I saw. They reported that 70-80 militia men attacked a Marine Compound, which was based in a former Royal Palace. They attacked with assault rifles, RPGs and mortars. Fox Fox News' source says that the situation is "under control" and "contained" at this time, but that the battle raged for several hours.

This is awful.

50. BREAKING-130 DEAD!!!!!!!!
I dont have enought posts to start a new thread please post this:

http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1130577,00.html

A Pentagon source has said up to 130 US troops have been killed in fierce fighting in Iraq.

The large scale battle, described as "intense", has taken place in the town of Ar Ramadi, 20 miles west of Fallujah.

Sky News' David Chater said: "None of this is official yet - none of it is confirmed."

But he added: "It sounds very much like this is being carried out by men who are militarily trained."

Chater described the attack as "highly sophisticated".

More follows...

Holy Shit! That would make sense tho...since earlier reports were 90 and they kept low-balling it to between 12 and 90. Altho earlier today I saw a headline say 21 killed in last 3 days...before this Ramadi battle tho.

Horrible.

HEAVY FIGHTING IN IRAQ

A large number of soldiers have been killed in fierce fighting in Iraq, according to unconfirmed reports. Some reports have put the toll as high as 130.

The large scale battle, described as "intense", has taken place in the town of Ar Ramadi, 20 miles west of Fallujah.

Sky News' David Chater said: "None of this is official yet - none of it is confirmed."

But he added: "It sounds very much like this is being carried out by men who are militarily trained."

....

The AP Breaking is confirmed number by Pentagon. I was assuming a zero got tossed on there. 130 could also be a mix of various forces, including Iraqi. Hell and quagmire going on regardless. How many civilians???

85. Of course Jr will go to Crawford
Being a lazy-ass crap sack who couldn't care less
about the people he kills, of course he'll go.

Unless his advisors (who "don't listen to polls") advice him not to.

75. Sky UK tv news did not mention 130 at the top of the hour...
and gave only the Pentagon number of a dozen killed in Ramadi. David Chater, who reported unconfirmed 130, did not report at the top of the hour from Baghdad.

71. 12 US Troops Dead in Ramadi, Is that 22 For Today?
Edited on Tue Apr-06-04 05:12 PM by leftchick
Cripes! I did hear at least a very good analysis of the situation from a Prof. at a University in NJ with Wolfie. He at last was acknowledging that We are most likely seeing Sunni and Shiite working together! He totaly disregarded the WH spin about baathists and saddam loyalists. He said this is a united front to oust the US occupiers!! Bring The Troops Home!
