Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Vancouver, WA-based fitness equipment maker Nautilus is recalling 78,000 Bowflex home gym equipment because of a safety flaw, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says.
Nautilus is voluntarily recalling its Bowflex(R) Ultimate 2 Home Gyms because the horizontal seat is supposed to be latched vertically for storage, but if it isn't manually latched it can fall unexpectedly and cause serious injuries to the user or a bystander. Nautilus has received 18 reports of head and shoulder injuries, including some that required stitches or staples, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
People who own a Bowflex(R) Ultimate 2 Home Gyms system, manufactured in China and sold from June 2005 through January 2009 should discontinue using the seat rail in the vertical position until a repair is performed. Registered owners will receive a repair kit in the mail and any owner who does not receive a kit by March 10 should contact the company.
It was the second time Nautilus has recalled its home gym. The other recall was Dec. 6, 2007, and involved 68,000 units.
