The OlympianState campaign-finance regulators say that a financial arm of the politically potent Building Industry Association of Washington has committed "apparent multiple violations" of state campaign law.

At issue is $584,527 that BIAW received from member local builder associations for use by BIAW's ChangePAC, which is helping to buy attack ads against Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire and to promote Republican Dino Rossi.
The state Public Disclosure Commission compiled a 138-page investigative report on the activity. That report goes to the commission's five citizen members Monday morning, and it's unclear whether the PDC or Attorney General's Office will take the case from here — or what kinds of penalties might be sought or imposed.

"I think there is a lot of legalese in these documents, but the short of it is BIAW has been caught red-handed, mounting an illegal fundraising campaign for the governor's race," attorney Knoll Lowney said Friday. He helped write the original complaints and said he hopes the government holds BIAW accountable.
