McCain defends Palin's experience
Source: Politico

“I don’t think it’s a short resume," McCain said. "She first ran for office back in 1992. I don’t know what Senator Obama was doing then, but the first time she ran was 1992. That’s 16 years. I think that’s a pretty, pretty event-filled and record-filled resume."

Interjects Gov. Palin: “I haven’t had too many years other than that to fill up yet.”

So does she feel ready to be a heartbeat away from the presidency? “Absolutely. Yup, yup. Especially with a good team around us.”

On whether she’ll be able to balance the vice-presidency with her family’s needs: “She’s heard that her whole life—the challenges of being a female mother in the work force,” says the governor’s husband, Todd Palin. “I remember the first time she ran for mayor on of her fellow council members told her you can’t run for mayor because you’ve got three negatives: Track, Bristol and Willow. Those are the three kids we had at the time. So, when you tell her that kind of stuff, she just gets fired up. We’re an Alaska family that adapts.”

44. sort of like Bush...
McCain might start to worry that his party is going to 'take him out', after the rigged election is over.

Then the neo-cons would have a new Bush in the White House.

background. You would think he would at least be as curious as we are about Obama. It is unbelieveable that McCain is so unknowledgable about so many things.

23. One thing I think we need to be careful about buying into...
...is comparing Obama with Palin. She is laughable, and he is presidential. And it's leaving McCain totally untouched. Obama can run circles around McCain, Palin, both of them together, and the elephants they rode in on!

27. It's not that
It was asking them to be honest about their "surprise" pick being unexperience so throw that argument out that window. It was McCain making a "big" move after Obama's historic speech. And then try to make the side argument that she perhaps is more "experienced" to Obama "16 years" It's really the President we vote for but I think we are just pointing out dishonesty. He(McCain) is even running a campagin on change as well.

29. The Republicans know exactly what they're doing....
... they basically laid down a rope. They wanted the Democrats to pick it up and play tug-o-war with them. And it worked, for today. The thing is, their base can get all fired up over this because they are in shock as much as Democrats are - and that will last awhile because they, too, probably can't believe it either. Adrenaline still makes you high, whether from anger, confusion, excitement or danger. Same high you get - same adrenaline. So after being in the doldrums about McCain, they are suddenly 'high' on things.

What McCain's folks want to do is create adrenaline, no matter how it is done. Their party was completely out of it. The more Democrats tug on that rope they laid down, the more they get to tug back - and the more adrenaline is created. The more they win.

Democrats should simply let go of the rope and move on and let the debates & facts start to do their thing. This will work itself out, and the adrenaline rush will be over by then. The reality of what McCain did using this woman-he-met-once as a prop, will sink in to the moderates and independents who are the real sway in this election. The base, having primed their adrenaline pumps, will now continue to cheer about McCain because of the Supreme Court issue. It is the only bullet in his gun. The moderates will not bite onto that bullet.

Simply, they want people to take their eye off McCain so they put something new to look at out there for awhile. Even monkeys will pic up a shiny new rock and play with it for hours on end just because it is new and they are bored to tears. But her voice, and her inability to fill in the blanks over time will wear away the shine of the stone, and they will then put it down and think about this more on a logical level and move on. Annie Oakley with the western 'maverick' music only carries you in the door a couple times. Their theme and will wear out before the month is up and the facts will be all that is left.

This person is not qualified as a commander in chief, to lead our nation, to plan our country's international agenda, to move us into the next century. She is no Condi Rice, no Kay Bailey Hutchinson, and no Anne Richards for that matter (bless her soul.) This lady was just a shiny stone that both sides found adrenalating for awhile.

This is just my opinion, but wanted to offer it up.

I mean, really. Look at this scene. LOL It truly is a 'scene'. We should be relishing the ones to come!

31. Does anyone in the Republican party or the media understand that VP is more than just a step
up from the Wasilla City Council? And that having 18 months experience as governor of a small state with few, if any, pressing issues is not sufficient experience in itself to qualify as a potential president?

I grew up in a town of similar size to Wasilla, and local government was a complete joke. No one took it seriously. The mayor was some old retired guy who showed up in the office for a few hours each week to chat with people, and that's about it. The city council members did even less.

This is completely stunning. By McCain's standards, just about anyone would qualify for VP.

37. Wow! What a great question, seriously!...

You have to wonder what was going through these parents minds when they chose such Fido-ish, or perhaps pet-horse-like monikers.

Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and eternally innocent, Trig.

Polar bears?

I am not qualified to do anything more than wonder about what this says about the mentality of the parents. I am looking forward to all of the profound analysis that will be brought to bear (bare?) on this potentially illuminating facet of Ms Palin's personality and an insight into her values.

Perhaps the children's names are traditional in their families.

Who knows...

Also incubating down in the pure speculation department...

How about some old nude photos of Sarah Heath showing up? Real or fake. Although I hope it doesn't happen, nothing would surprise me anymore and it probably wouldn't/couldn't hurt McLame's sucky campaign!

My craziest post ever on DU, I must have too much time for frivolity in my dotage.

Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 11:43 PM by mcg
implying that if he doesn't know something, then that something is not there or false or whatever. He implies things in a really slimy way. McCain shouldn't be bragging about not knowing his opponent's history.

"... in 1992. I don’t know what Senator Obama was doing then ..." - McCain

From Wikipedia, a partial list of what Obama was doing in 1992 ...

...
Obama directed Illinois Project Vote from April to October 1992, a voter registration drive with a staff of 10 and 700 volunteers that achieved its goal of registering 150,000 of 400,000 unregistered African Americans in the state, leading Crain's Chicago Business to name Obama to its 1993 list of "40 under Forty" powers to be.<21><22>
Obama taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School for twelve years, as a Lecturer for four years (1992–1996) ...
Obama was a founding member of the board of directors of Public Allies in 1992 ...

41. McCain thinks all women are bimbos
John McCain has a disturbing pattern of treating women as nothing but air headed, disposable arm candy.

McCain’s first wife, Carol, was a swim wear model, not the most respectful “job” for a woman. He displayed her with pride to his buddies, flaunting her sexuality as if “having” her made him a man.

And when Carol was disfigured and crippled in a car accident, McCallous had affairs with numerous women, finally settling on a rodeo beauty queen 18-years-his-junior. He married Cindy, the silicone-chested, botox-faced beer heiress before the ink was dry on the divorce from his first wife. Cindy became a well-known drug addict.

Now he picks Sarah Palin as his running mate, a vacuous former beauty queen whose qualifications include competing in the Miss Alaska pageant.
Apparently, McLame thinks women are so dumb that we’ll vote for him simply because he picked someone with a vagina as his running mate.

Someone should have told him he was supposed to be picking a vice presidential candidate, not his third wife.

More on his treatment of women:

42. Anybody seen the McCain interview
on Fox this morning? Asked about the experience issue, he answered "I have been following her for many, many years". In other words, Sen. McCain was following the brilliant career of the mayor of W... (whatever the name of that town is). He is just saying words. The meaning, relevance, truth,... who cares? There was another glaring example in the same interview with Wallace, where he just said something that made zero sense, unfortunately I cannot recall the quote.
