Breaking NewsWith a floral offering to Founding Father Simón Bolívar at the National Pantheon and with the hoisting of the National Flag, the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on Saturday launched the celebration of the 197th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence, and Day of the National Armed Forces.
The event began at 6 am with a ceremonial handing over of the national flag to the Minister of Internal Affairs and Justice Ramón Rodríguez Chacín, alongside other members of Venezuela''s Cabinet, high-ranking military officials and other distinguished guests.
Following the singing of the National Anthem, a ceremonial signing took place headed by Minister Rodríguez Chacín, Defense Minister Gustavo Rangel Briceno, Culture Minister Hector Soto and Education Minister Hector Navarro.
At the end of the ceremony, Defense Minister Gustavo Rangel Briceno sent the following greeting to the people of Venezuela.
"Glorious, dignified people, today July 5, 2008 we celebrate another year of the signing of the Act of Independence; an independence that in the 1800s was incomplete. Today, we again raise the flag of Bolivar and with great dignity and honor, as the Venezuelan people face another fight for their freedom, to complete their freedom," he said.
