Rush Limbaugh Calling For Riots In Denver
Source: ABC news Channel 7 Denver

DENVER -- Talk show host Rush Limbaugh is sparking controversy again after he made comments calling for riots in Denver during the Democratic National Convention this summer.

He said the riots would ensure a Democrat is not elected as president, and his listeners have a responsibility to make sure it happens.

"Riots in Denver, the Democrat Convention would see to it that we don't elect Democrats," Limbaugh said during Wednesday's radio broadcast. He then went on to say that's the best thing that could happen to the country.

Limbaugh cited Al Sharpton, saying the Barack Obama supporter threatened to superdelegates that "there's going to be trouble" if the presidency is taken from Obama.

Several callers called in to the radio show to denounce Limbaugh's comments, when he later stated, "I am not inspiring or inciting riots, I am dreaming of riots in Denver."

96. America Would Be Better Without Rush Limpnoodle In It
How Rush could even have his own talk radio show is beyond me. This fool is nasty, bitter and a whacked out 'sheeple'. I don't even think he's human. He needs to be committed.

with all the oxy that guy has been gobbling down over the years, he probably hasn't had a BM since Clinton's first term.

Nothing but oxycontin and 15 years of Swanson Hungry Man frozen salisbury steak (family size portions). I just want to know why his heart hasn't exploded yet ... oh, wait, he probably doesn't HAVE ONE.

Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 12:32 AM by ingin
Can this be anything less than a federal crime? Is this not a threat to the U.S. government? The Treasury Department? Is this not an attempt to overthrow our government during a Constitutionally mandated transition process of the leadership of the United States of America? Is this not, and I know I am "NOW" pushing the envelope, a provocation to insight political terrorism against the United States?

Now for my satirical question (so you think). Who's fundies do you think will answer the call? His, or Bin Ladens?

Fry that Fat Bastard!

I doubt if any of his acolytes will register as Democrats and attend the convention too. I guess a few hardcore ones might infiltrate the convention (and/or this website!) but I don't imagine it will be that much of a problem.

4. Yes, and Hillary loves to make Limbaugh's dreams...
...come true, so she can continue on with this un-winnable charade--that eviscerates our party
and diminishes our hope of a GE win in November.

She can't surpass Obama in delegates, unless she garners 70 percent of the vote in each remaining
state.

So why the hell is she doing this? Why is she giving Rush Limbaugh his dreams on a silver platter--and
in the end she'll get nothing and her entire party suffers.

Why? Why?

In Hillary's world, the race for stupidity has no finish line.

I need a strong drink before going there...and coming back too. As for the anal fissure king, let him run his big fat mouth. Sooner or later he will get slapped down. He's pushing it and will go too far, even for the bought-off FCC officials. The day he openly calls for a sitting president to be assassinated, likely to happen after one of the Dems wins the WH, he will be history. We can dream anyway.

205. Whom, and to what end, is the organization accountable for splitting the party....
is a touchy area, if you were paying attention in PA. Poor choice of words do not compare to bald-faced lies. But this Limpdick issue is, in my view, less about splitting the Democratic party, and more about instigating the excessive use of force during our convention. This attempt to create havoc could cause the city of Denver to become militarized. And then Bush could, possibly get to use "Marshall Law" to turn the convention into a catalyst for things far worse than a fractured Democratic Party.

The question is, what would come out of it? Race-riots? Civilian v. Security Services (Police, Guard Units, Secret Service)? Democrat v. Democrat? Democrat v. Republican?

I don't think I've ever heard of such a clear cut case of homegrown terrorism in my life. This is no different than the Blind Sheik instructing his followers to bomb the GW bridge, or bin Laden making videos saying "Death to America". And the threat should be taken seriously; by us, the DNC, and the Secret Service.

a big, right-wing idiot who - and let's not forget this part - molested her when she was a young teenager, and then proceeded to have a "consensual" sexual relationship with her after she reached adulthood. He confessed and apologized later, in court, in the penalty phase of her trial.

If a riot does happen in Denver and anyone gets hurt or killed, Rush should be blamed 100% since he threatened a riot during the DNC. He's a poor excuse for a human being. I doubt he is one. He is proof that one can live without a heart.

February 18, 1970

Chicago 7 defendants found innocent of inciting to riot.

Rush should not fare quite so well, as his speech has little social redeeming value.

OTOH, I will really enjoy seeing him bound and gagged in the courtroom.

This fucking clown will never be subject to the same laws the rest of us abide by.

Just because he came back after some calls and changed direction doesn't mean a crime wasn't committed. If I mug someone, and then later on say, "Oh it wasn't my intention to mug you," I've still committed the crime.

70. In 2000 (I think), Howard Stern got a phone call from a nutjob swearing he would
assassinate one of the Presidential candidates ...

Howard and Baba Booey begged and pleaded with the guy to say he was joking, and the guy refused ...

They knew what was going to happen ... off the air, they got calls from the Secret Service, and Baba Booey gave them all the information ... the person was arrested and brought in for psychiatric evaluation.

Of course, that was a nutjob wanting to kill a Dem ... and he got punished.

In the early part of Bush's residency, a guy was arrested for joking about a "burning bush" ...

Now, Rush Limbaugh, with his psychotic followers, is calling for riots (gee, how is that not inciting a riot?) at the Dem convention ... he's already called for his followers to break the law with "Operation Chaos" ... and he walks away without a scratch ...

Jim Morrison was arrested for "inciting a riot", allegedly for mooning a policeman ...

Where is there any balance?

As sick as it makes me to say, his vitriolic spew may be protected. He can always argue he was not "inciting or producing IMMINENT lawless action," the standard under Brandenburg v. Ohio. This whole discussion is purely academic as we all know NOTHING will ever happen to his fat @$$. Ever.

124. There have been multiple ruling on this.
The 1st amendment does not protect a person calling for violence, saying or printing defamatory statements, or giving out classified info or info that is meant to cause harm.

Rush broke the law in my view. Violated his FCC mandate in my view (Public airwaves MUST be used for the public good and promote safety (EBS for example) ) and because he has many who follow him like a god he may be indirectly the cause of a riot when and if his listeners try to incite one in my view.

The democratic convention risk may have doubled thanks to his remarks. He needs to be arrested.

Do you need any more reasons to put a Dem in the white house? Anyone could do it, either Obama or Hillary. But the laws of the United States need to be enforced. Do it Democrats. Inciting riots/violence is against the law and is NOT free speech.

You whiny crybabies who threaten to sit out the election should think about all those offices a Dem president would appoint and all those bills that need to be signed into law but McCain has promised to veto.

After inspiring and inciting riots, you don't get off the hook by claiming "I am not inspiring or inciting riots, I am dreaming of riots in Denver." Cover your fat ass with something bigger you stupid drug addicted hypocrite blowhard.

51. Inciting a riot is a federal offense. I'd say if he keeps it up...
...swear out a warrant for the fat, drug-addled, pedophile f*ck's arrest:

Under federal law, inciting a riot applies to any person who organizes, encourages, or participates in a riot. It can apply to one who simply urges or instigates others to riot. It does not apply to someone who merely advocates ideas or expresses beliefs, if those ideas and beliefs do not involve advocating violence.

The federal crime of inciting a riot carries a possible penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine.

State and local governments also have laws that make it a crime to incite a riot. The penalties range from fines only to jail time. It is important that the law, even if only a municipal ordinance, specify the conduct that that is prohibited with sufficient definiteness that ordinary people can understand what conduct is prohibited.

Keep it up, you bloated douchebag.

Anyway, we should all do this. Nearly a million complaints, 99.99999% of all FCC complaints, are made each year by one "watchdog" right-wing group. We should start doing the same.

79. Provocateur Inciting Miami-Dade Courthouse Steps Again
Most of us remember the Rethugs' attempts to disrupt the recount of voter ballots at the Miami-Dade courthouse in the wake of the 2000 election. The "demonstrators" mostly right-wing Republican Congressmens' staffers got kid-glove treatment from the Miami Dade police and their politically ambitious mayor.

I can't help but wonder that if in this very changed political climate the little dears or their successors try a similar stunt in front of the Democratic national convention, the Denver police and the country sheriff's departments might prove far less tenderhearted.

97. In your dreams for sure. The reason behind the riots in 68 was
entirely different - they were anti-war. Any "trouble" this time would come only if people feel their votes have not counted. And the most likely "trouble" from Obama supporters would be refusing to vote in the general - not rioting.

142. The riots are only part of it
Limbaugh also is trying to sabotage our election process with crossover voting designed to disrupt the Democratic side. Limbaugh promises more than that though. He brags that there will be a series of acts throughout the election which will undermine the ability of Democrats to choose and promote their nominee. Its like Nixon dirty tricks but this time the whole GOP will be in on it.

Limbaugh is extremely dangerous and I wish the 2/3 of Americans who would be shocked to learn what goes on during his broadcasts would find out. When Rush worked for Mitt Romney during the GOP primary the networks carried his endorsement as big news, reporting on how influential Limbaugh is. Since they finally admit Limbaugh is influential, they should report on how his lies and hatred divided America and just how much he and his followers want to destroy America. The public should know that McCain associates with a man who wants to cause riots and undermine elections.

158. Rush wannabe says use machine guns on convention protesters
That's what Minnesota Thug Radio host Chris Baker said on the air recently:

http://www.mnmonitor.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=3632

Baker's suggestion is violent suppression of what he calls "stinky protesters" that are part of "an industry funded by billionaires and communist organizations (and) they are well-coordinated and incredibly dangerous."

Baker continued: "So we've been talking about police protection during the upcoming convention when all those stinky protesters are coming. There seems to be a big debate over whether or not police officers will be able to wear helmets, carry shields, use pepper spray and Tasers on this crowd. You know, I'll tell you what works on a crowd like this -- a machine gun, that always works very well."

Baker's co-host, "Jordan," agreed: "Mow 'em down, baby!" he added.

"You must have order, you cannot have a civilized society without order and if that means cracking a few skulls, so be it," said Baker. "A good ole boy network is what you need and hand out some ax handles."

So if that's what Baker prescribes for protesters at the Republican National Covention in St. Paul, I presume Mr. Law-and-Order would call for the same treatment of Rush's protesters in Denver, right?

LifeLock identity protection is another, and then there's Lear Capital.

I don't shop at Bums & Ignoble anyway, but those who do could send a message to the store by withdrawing their patronage and telling them why.

Everyday it's "Operation Chaos" in the "Democrat Party". He makes me cringe. He has NO right to talk about MY party or to plan any riots. What kind of idiots listen to him? He happens to follow the local morning show on my AM station and I snap him off the minute I hear his bloviating.

Even if he lost weight, that phrase was not a dig at his weight as much as it was the vastness of his stupidity. In fact he's an idiot to an infinite degree.

"lost their bearings" ?

Limbaugh incited riots- aren't those the actions of a true "terrorist"?.

213. What would the media response be if this had been called for
at the last Republican convention?

The FBI would be involved in a heartbeat. Suddenly no one but credentialed, loyalty-oath-swearing Republicans would be admitted to the city. The media would spend months declaiming against the instigators and how shockingly violent and un-American they are - what a threat to Homeland Security.

How much do you want to bet we here nothing more of this except here at DU and a few other liberal sites?

Ho hum, inciting violence against Democrats. Anything else new today?

228. The probability of Dittoheads rioting,
or the probability of them turning off Fox News or logging off Free Republic long enough to leave their mom's basement and go talk to other human beings about something besides paperclip sales or whatever they do for a living, is roughly zero.

Rush's "dream" of riots at the DC was just a cheesy rhetorical device trying to make it look like those nutty liberal whackos are in grave danger of ruining their own convention with their nutty liberalness. Because if Al Sharpton said something about "trouble," it obviously means folks throwing trash cans through plate windows. I mean, he is black, isn't he? ( :sarcasm: obviously)

232. I'm calling for tar and feathering Limbaugh...
"I am not inspiring or inciting riots, I am dreaming of riots in Denver."...and I'm dreaming of him w/his tongue nailed to the rudder of bush's Titanic...does that put me into "protected status" simply because I wrote something?

Fact of the matter is, the GOP can't win w/o something that isn't nefarious and underhanded. In a real election, they might get 35% of the popular vote...w/McCain, I'd be surprised if they get 25%.

The whole idea behind "Operation Chaos", is that the RW knows they have a loser for a candidate, so they don't even try to bolster McCain...all they can do is try to toss dirt and crap at the D candidates and eventual noiminee...they have nothing, and everybody knows it.

Rush is just letting the folks on the ground in the right wing in on the higher up's schemes is all. Because the RNC does not want to send in too many organized agitators. It will be safer for them if a bunch of spontaneous crazies show up that they can disavow.

249. Limbaugh Downplays 'Riot In Denver' Comment
Edited on Sat Apr-26-08 10:10 AM by ohio2007
snip
Glenn Spagnuolo, an organizer with the protest group Re-create 68, mimicked a comment by state Rep. Douglas Bruce, R-Colorado Springs, by saying:

"We don't need another 5,000 illiterate Limbaugh listeners coming to Colorado."

snip

Limbaugh justified his statements by referring to the Rev. Al Sharpton, who promised demonstrations in Denver if superdelegates defy the popular vote and give the Democratic nomination to Hillary Clinton instead of Barrack Obama.

"He was throwing down the gauntlet to the superdelegates -- you take this election from Barrack Obama and there's going to be trouble. There's going to be trouble in Denver," Limbaugh said.

http://cbs4denver.com/politics/Limbaught.Denver.Riot.2.708265.html

I doubt left leaning Sharpton is going to lock step with right leaning Rush but it isn't hard to realize all sorts will show up....and now will be labeled as Rushes illiterate stooges ;)

that'll get the fight up in them

254. This is what made me register here
I've looked at these boards for months and finally decided to register after this latest incident of Rush not thinking before he speaks.

I'm in Middle Georgia, youngest person at my job by 30 years, and all my coworkers basically worship Rush. If he's on, they're listening. I heard exactly what he said and it sure sounded like he was inciting a riot to me. Rush and Neal Boortz (who makes Rush seem tame) do this crap ALL THE TIME. They speak with NO sympathy, compassion, or remorse for ANYONE. I filed an FCC complaint the moment I got home from work the day after hearing this, although I know nothing will come of it.

He called for terrorist activity in a major American city, and will not be punished. I know exactly why, and I'm sick of it. Inciting riots, calling Katrina victims parasites that deserved death, they don't care what they say. The worst thing about it is that there are people that agree with this GARBAGE, or else these people would not have radio shows. The truth is that if anyone here went on the radio and said what Rush said, you'd be in custody RIGHT NOW. So why not Rush? And I'm expected to sit back and accept this?
